  • Keostix Changes in the First Week

Quick question. My induction is going quite well so far, but I am noticing some real changes in the keostix... sometimes they are dark and sometimes they show light amounts of keotones. Is this common? Does the color on the stick depend on how hyrdated you are? I have been drinking a ton of water and maybe that is the reason for the changes. I taste the keo-breathe all the time and i have stayed under the 20 grams... Any advice?

In DANDR, he states that any change on the ketosix indicate ketosis. The darker color can mean you are spilling more ketones or that your urine is just more concentrated because you haven't gone potty for a while.

You are right on track! Keep up the good work! Welcome to ADBB!!

I really like this forum... very supportive and constructive...

I already feel like I am losing weight... pants fitting better, etc...

I am only going to weigh myself after the 14 days. I am thinking about a 21 day or 28 day induction... advice?? pros/cons?

Welcome to our ADBB family, tpwoofs

I am glad you are already seeing changes!!

As to the amount of time you choose to spend on induction, well it would depend on how much weight you have got left to lose after the 14 days.

Generally I feel that if you have less than 50 pounds to lose you would do better moving straight to the second phase of Atkins (Ongoing Weight Loss/OWL) and start to add carbs in the order and amounts laid out in DANDR in preparatio of eating a wide variety of foods once you are at goal weight.

If however you are one of us heavyweights with nearer to a hundred pounds to shed there would be no harm in extending your induciton as long as you were not feeling deprived by the restrictions of induction eating.

When you are approaching your 14th day take a look at the section in Chapter 13 of DANDR titled 'More Induction? ' and answer the 4 questions there to help you decide.

Good luck with your first 14 days
