  • help please - feeling awful

Hi - am on day 3 (no cheating) of induction and am feeling really strange: really weak, like I'm about to get food poisoning (my legs feel like jelly, I'm really tired, I feel sick, my heart feels like it's beating really hard and I can't concentrate). Am also very hungry (despite having a 2-egg omelette with cheese and ham, plus a nibble of extra cheese and loads of water), grumpy and emotional but that could be TOM coming up. Have just tried to have some tuna with mayo for lunch but it's making me feel ill just to have it in my mouth - I've never had this reaction before (and this is my 4th induction). My head feels quite hot as well, like I'm gettin a fever. I felt so much better yesterday - with only a slight headache and a fair amount of energy.
Usually when I get induction 'flu' I get headachey, a little dizzy on day 1 & 2, and generally bad-tempered for the first few days, but this feels really weird. Anyone have anything similar? Is this just induction flu or am I getting sick?

it effects everyone different every time, stay strong for the next couple of days, if you were eating lots of carbs and sugary things before your induction this is just a withdrawal, it will pass!

Re: help please - feeling awful

I felt really bad too the first few days on Induction, I was wondering do I really want to do this diet? I felt like I was really very ill or something and sort of depressed too.

Then I thought of why I wanted to lose weight... to get into my riding gear and to ride... my passion ... but for the first five days for me, I was very miserable. I thought it was going to be like that for the rest of the diet. However, things changed on day 5 and I have had my ups and downs since then in terms of moods and feelings of wellness, but on the whole I feel good. I am sure you will too.

One thing that I found very inportant with regards to fatigue and your heart; are you taking enough potassium supplements?

            Thanks for the advice everyone

I am not taking any supplements at the mo - cash is a bit short and most of it is going on buying extra meat and cheese (why are pasta and bread so much less expensive???)!!!
I do know how I usually feel both on induction and with TOM, but this doesn't feel like it at all (don't get any PMT really expect the crying!) - I have a really bad upset stomach as well, and I haven't experienced this before on any of my inductions - the way I'm feeling doesn't make me want to cheat (I feel too sick to want to eat much) am just a bit worried

Obviously I don't have any advice to offer re:the diet itself because I am a newbie but I would say if you are still feeling this ill by tomorrow a trip to the doctor might be in order because the symptoms sound something more than would be expected on a diet, any diet!I just hope you feel better soon.

Re: help please - feeling awful

Carbaholic, I'm not a pro or a dietician, but I think that a multisupplement is needed. Dr.Atkins recommends "At a minimum, take a good daily multivitamin with minerals, including potassium, magnesium, and calcium, but without iron." I don't know why not the iron for women, but I guess he might be considering the men--I don't know. You can find really cheap vitamins online. Just search on any search engine, or walmart.com. I know I get one sold by Equate (sold in walmart) that's around $5.00. I also did a paper on supplements, for a class, and I learned that there are a handful of companies that make supplements, and then they sell them to thousands who put their labels on them. So don't worry too much about spending a tone of money on name brands--most come from the same place.
