  • 10 Days into Induction.....no loss going on?!

    Hi all,

I'm 10 days in and I've lost 2-3 lbs since my initial start day. I made sure to weigh after a similar amount of meals, activity, and attire as the first day I began on.

Average Calories Over The Last Week Eaten

    grams cals %total
    Total:
    1903

    Fat:
    133 1200 65%
    Sat: 54 484 26%
    Poly: 4 35 2%
    Mono: 23 203 11%
    Carbs:
    11 35 2%
    Fiber: 2 0 0%
    Protein:
    155 620 33%

I've tried to follow the 65% fat/35% protein level. I don't account for the olive oil I cook the food in, so that might be lowering the actual fat %s. I also know I need to make a concerted effort to do more exercise. But still, 10 days in, after following the induction guidelines to a T, only 2 lbs, maybe really no weight loss? Am I eating too many calories or too much fat? I tested with the Ketostix and my strips are only coming out to 'small' traces or in between small & moderate. I also read the Weight Loss sticky, so I guess I shouldn't panic till I'm 20 days in and still no change?

    Thanks all

    Hello

First, I would like to mention that that ratios are actually 65% Fat, 5% Carbs, and 30% Protein. Yours are very close, though, so I wouldn't worry much about that except to ask is it correct that you only had 2 grams of fiber? If so, that is very low. I see you only had 11 carbs. I'm guessing your veggies are low, too, hence the low fiber total.

You are supposed to be getting most of your carbs from veggies. When we did the Veggie Challenge back in April, the minimum amount of net veggie carbs required for Induction was 12... that is more than your total carbs. And, you will learn to pick the more nutrient and fiber rich veggies with practice. I think everybody overdoes lettuce when they first begin. I never eat it anymore... just nothing to it, really.

I think it would help us give better advice if you could give us your stats, such as age, sex, height, current weight, and goal weight.

Thanks for replying mitzi. Stats below:

      Male
      Mid 20s
      5' 4"
      151 lbs.

Looking to get down to the 130s, so let's say 20 lbs. is the target. I saw the blurb that said 5% to 10% of the intended weight loss goal is usually lost during induction. If so then I guess I'm on track....

congratulations on your loss so far
As you said, you are doing fine, as the 5-10% loss is for the whole 14 days of induction and you have already lost 10% in 10 days!!

I agree with Mitzi, you might do better if you can add some more nutrient-rich vegetables, which when you move to OWL after your 14 day induction period will be the first step anyway.

        Keep up the good work!
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

Congrats on your loss so far!
did you measure yourself before you started?
I'll bet you lost inches while the weight is catching up...!
Also, for a slight ego boost, I would say that measuring first thing in the morning, after using the bathroom is the most flattering result ;-p

Some people dont really start losing weight until OWL. Be proud of your loss so far - any loss is a great achievement!

Thank you all for the kind words and encouragement. I was planning to stay on Induction until I saw some more fruitful results. Is there a reason to do otherwise?

Have a safe & joyous holiday weekend

                  Yes

Dr Atkins suggested that it was people with poor metabolisms and those with lots more weight to lose who would benefit from extending the 2 week of induction - and I dont think you would come into either category.

The second phase of Atkins 'Ongoing Weight Loss (OWL)' is as its name implies the main weightloss phase of Atkins, and if you dont follow it as written you would in my opinion be cheating yourself of the chance to discover your CCLL and see if any foods affect you by staying on induction longer.

Take a look at some of the recent threads in that forum and see how other members are doing and enjoying the variety it offers while still losing weight - sometimes at a better rate than they were when following an extended induciton!!
