With hotdogs, you should make sure they don't have any fillers or sugars. Also they tend to have nitrates which are not particularly good for you. But I think the kosher all beef ones are okay and some that are homemade or made by local meat markets are okay.

Suusage makers often add things like starches to add bulk and help it all stay together. These are referred to as 'extenders' or 'binders' by the trade, but we often lump them together as being 'fillers'
Binders and Extenders
Many sausages contain some additional ingredients which may improve the flavor and help to retain the natural juiciness (binders) or reduce the cost of the sausage formulation (extenders). The most commonly used ingredients of this type are non-fat dry milk, cereal flours and soy protein products. You may use these ingredients in most products, depending upon your taste.

thats a good question! I buy hotdogs, brats, keilbasa etc from this German meat market and their stuff is AWSOME! I asked the guy that ran the place about sugar, he said all their sausages/wursts etc have SOME sugar in them. That'll just HURT if I can't eat their products! OOOWWWWWWOOOOO!!
Hot dogs can be very high in nitrates (according to DANDR this is not a good thing) and are highly processed. Personally I don't eat them, just on the principle that Atkins is supposed to be about eating whole, nutritious, non-processed foods. Although, I doubt it would be the end of the world if you had one once in awhile, as long as it doesn't include carby type things in the ingredients.
I eat the Hebrew National ones very rarely as a last resort. I make sure to drink a lot of water after because they are so high in sodium but they've never hurt me. I am trying to avoid as many processed meats this time around just because they have such bad stuff in them (nitrates etc) but if you aren't living on them I think they are ok!
