  • Question about water

    Hi guys

I started over 2 weeks ago with 1 minor mess up and 1 serious mess up . I have been doing extremely well the last few days. Even was cleaning out my cabinets, got some honey on my hand and washed it off without licking my hand!! Anyway, I was reading the posts and when people talked about cheating they were told to up their water for a few days. What exactly does that do? Just curious. Thanks for all your help! You guys are great!

    Re: Question about water

    water is your friend!
its usually me that screams drink more water!! just cos, waters good, it doesnt *do* anything, not that anyone knows, and no one can prove, but if you drink more water it will stop you retaining water... ya see... look at it like this...

If you have a cheat day, for whatever reason, cos the grass is greener on the other side or somethin... you're eatin all this sugary carby crap... and more than likely, your drinking it too! when i *used* to have cheat days, i never ever drank water, i wanted stuff i thought i missed out on, all sorts of sugary sodas.... so if im not drinkin water, i'm retaining it..

if i drink more water after a cheat im flushing as much of that bad stuff away as i can

Thats my theory anyway.. and im sticking to it... lol

      Re: Question about water

What I understand about water is that when you're retaining water, drinking more water will actually help! Maybe upping your water after a cheat flushes the bad stuff out faster? Not sure on that one.

        Re: Question about water

I don't know why but whenever I've fallen off the wagon, if I drink a LOT more water the next couple of days it seems to get me back into ketosis sooner and I don't gain weight? It might be different for everyohe but drinking water can only help right

          Re: Question about water

It also helps flush all the sodium and toxins stored in the foods we eat,
A lot of the prepared food we buy has a high amount of these in them,
as soon as they are removed the cleaner our system is and the more
          effective it becomes.

            Re: Question about water

here's some on the benefits of water:
Drinking plenty of water helps to minimize strong craving for food, because it works towards reducing your appetite. Talking about the fact, as to how much water one should drink, well; on an average you should drink about 8 glasses per day. But if you are on your weight loss diet program, then you should keep drinking water throughout the day. Your daily water intake should be about 1 ounce of water for every 2 pounds of body weight.

If you've incorporated physical workout in your weight loss program, then it is recommended to drink more water, so as to make up for the loss of water that takes place through sweating while performing your exercises. Drink water before, during and after your exercises, so as to keep your energy level high.

Also, if your body thinks that it is not getting enough water, it goes into survival mode and will retain fluids from wherever it can find it (in the muscles in some instances) and this could see the scales going up

Drinking plenty of water plumps the skin cells and muscle tissue, leaving skin looking younger and healthier, and helps the liver and kidneys to do their jobs: the kidneys cannot function without enough water, and in the case that they do not receive enough, the liver takes on some of the kidney's functions - as one of the liver's functions is to metabolize stored fat into energy, if it's workload is too high, it cannot work at full-throttle - as a result it metabolises less fat, and fat remains stored in the body and weight loss stops.

Also as Sallyann so correctly said, as water is forced through the kidneys, they remove excess sodium and toxins.

Overweight people need more water than slimmer folk - they have excess fat to metabolise. It also helps rid the body of waste, and when on a diet or losing weight, there is more waste to be rid of (i.e. fat).

So many benefits to drinking plenty of water!!!

              Re: Question about water

              Out of my nutrition book:

Water has several important physiological roles:
              1. Acts as a solvent, enabling chemical reactions to occur
              2. Maintains the stability of all bodily fluids
              3. Enables transport of nutrients to the cells and provides a medium for excretion of waste products.
              4. Acts as a lubricant between cells to permit movement w/o friction
              5. Regulates body temp.
