  • Success....Finally!!!!

Hi everyone. My name is Tabatha. I am a 26yo mother of one. I live in SC and suffer from hypothyroidism/with a cyst on my right thyroid gland. I have tried it all........ Diet pills-every one imaginable, scrip and non scrip
    Slim Fast
    Low Cal Diet
    Low Fat Diet
    Low Sodium Diet
    Apple Cider Vinegar Diet
    Six Week Body Makeover

and now............ATKINS!!! I tried Atkins a few years ago and failed. I was a carb-o-holic then...living on things like Velveeta shells and cheese, and Refried potatos. I used to just eat bread.....with nothing on it!!!!

I reached an all time high weight of 210 lbs on my 5'7" frame and decided I'd had enough. I NEVER had a weight problem b4-not until the past 2 -3 years...which is about how long I have had the 6 inch cyst. I just did not know it until this past January when it looked like I swallowed a baseball.

My boyfriend and I want to get married, but the day of my dreams will be memorable, and I do NOT want to remember being OVERWEIGHT and chunky. I would like to get down to 150 by Oct.

I JUST FINISHED WEEK ONE OF INDUCTION.......I DID IT!!!!!!! 7lbs down!!!!!

        Hi Honey

Welcome to ADBB - this is a great site for support, ideas and encouragement.

We sound quite similar - I'm 5'7 and I started Atkins at 210 and am aiming for 160 (poss 150). I also have hypothyroidism. There is a forum about that on this site which is useful. I personally believe this diet is very well suited to people with thyroid probs.

I think you can lose a great deal of weight in time for October, but don't get too hung up on a number by a certain date. Lots of people find that they lose a bit slower than they'd like or other things come up that derail them for a bit. I don't mean to be discouraging - I'm sure some people could lose like that, but don't feel bad if you don't - as long as you keep at it you'll get there in the end.

                    Great job so far!

I'm curious why your Docs haven't removed a 6inch nodule? I know it's none of my business, so feel free to ignore me

I had my thyroid taken out 2yrs ago, and while being permanantly hypothyroid and on Thyroid replacement meds for the rest of your life seems horrible, it's really not so bad. As long as your Docs keep your TSH regulated, you shouldn't have much more trouble losing weight than the average person.

I read "The Thyroid Diet" and it touted low glycemic foods for Thyroid patients so that's why I'm here. Good luck to you!

                      Re: Success....Finally!!!!

Thanks 2 u all for your encouragement!!! Yesterday was the end of week 2 and I have not lost anymore weight. I do not know what I did wrong. Maybe it was the once a day piece of sugar free candy (made with splenda) or maybe I just did not eat enough. Sometimes I find it exhausting to eat so much meat. The veggies are no prob, I love veggies, but meat is hard 4 me to eat 2 much of. Then again, I may have lost some inches. I will make sure I hit it hard this week for my weigh in on Sunday!!! It feels good to hear people say that I am looking thinner. My dad said that I looked like I had lost some weight......that is amazing, only 7lbs and the last person I figured would notice....DID!!!!

Kristin*- I had a 6inch cyst in my right thyroid gland, it was filled with a reddish rust colored fluid which my doc drained from it Feb 2007. The doc got 30ccs of fluid out of it!!! Gross, huh? Luckily my cyst is fluid filled, and not a mass of tissue which would more likely be cancerous. The reason the doc hasn't removed it is because he wanted to drain it and give it a few months to see if it would again retain fluid. He said that we should take every step possible before he puts a knife to my neck and I have to take medication for the rest of my life. I go back to the doc on June 20 at 8am for an ultrasound. I will probably know then if and when I will have surgery.

I will be so happy to lose 10lbs before getting to his office on 6/20/07. My minigoal is to be 10lbs lighter by then!!!

So, Let's hit it hard and lose that chub!!

This was taken October 2007, I weigh 375.

I was on atkins last year in the early fall and lost about 30 pounds. I obviously gained it back...but I know this is the right diet for me as it works very good. So I am back!

                          Hiya!
A pause in weight loss after the initial drop is very common. It's probably that your body just needs to "catch up".... needs to realise you're serious about weight loss. Another thing is that often you can lose inches before you lose lbs. Take your measurements. These are a better guage than the number on a scale every will be.

Hang in there. You're doing very well!
