  • Help what food should I go to if I am near my 20Gs but still hungry and unsatified?

    Ok its a Saturday and I am sure being at home isn't helping but Its only 12:30 and I am at around 13g of carbs. What is my best choice of food to go towards when I am running out of carbs for later. I know meat isn't always the best option but I only have a few more carbs to play with for the rest of the day. What to eat?

    First thing I'd suggest is drinking a glass of water (or two) and awiting 10-15 minutes to make sure that you really ARE hungry not just thirsty.

    If it's really food not thirst or boredom then something high in fat will keep you satisified the longest. Meats are good, fried cheese, celery dipped in full fat bleu cheese dressing, pork rinds etc...

        Are most of the carbs you are getting from nutrient and fiber rich veggies and are you subtracting fiber from total carbs to get your net carb total?

          All of those things will add to my carb count and dinner is still ahead I can't only have meat for supper. Geeh Im having a bad day and yesterday my carb count ended at about 22g. Mitzimaria actually no I am not. I am just going off of the amount of carbs that I have list for my food for today from fitday.com.

            Is that no to both of Mitzi's questions? If so that has to be the problem right there.

            Most of the carbs you are getting should be from nutrient and fiber rich veggies and you should be subtracting fiber from total carbs to get your net carb total.

            20 carbs = total carbs - fiber

              GrantI think I am eating fiber rich veggie. So far I had green pepper and mushrooms in my 2 eggs this morning and about 1/4 of a cucumber a short time after that. After I recieved your first thread I had a two big cups of ice water and a can of tuna with mayo and used celery as my scooper. I guess i just dont know what the fiber would be and it dont see it shown on fitday. Maybe I should take a nap and to stop thinking about the food then when I wake up it will be dinner.

                I started out bad today I had to leave the house at about 7:30am this morning unexpectedly and with out eating. I did have half a bag of pistachios I found at the gas sation. It was an individual serving bag so I had the 1/2 serving. So that did suck up some of my carbs, but same thing happened yesterday and did have the nuts. I was off of work yesterday so I sat around feeling hungry.

                  don't worry, you are not alone...bad day for me too...sooooooo many cravings for chocolate!!!!!!!!!

                    OK, a few things...

                    You really do need to subtract fiber from the total carbs to get your net carbs, because induction allows 20 net carbs. To get Fitday to count the fiber grams for you, you need to go into "Goals" and set a fiber minimum. I think it is on the left side of the screen. It can be any number - I have my goal listed as 1, just so it will count fiber for me. Then, you can subtract the fiber from the total and get a true net carb total. Fiber will be listed right near the carbs, so you can tell at a glace what to subtract.

                    Another thing you need to consider is how you spend your carbs. I am assuming you are in induction right now? Out of the carbs you are allowed, at least 12 of those net carbs should be from vegetables. Once you get some practice, you will learn which veggies carry the most punch for nutrients and fiber. Eating these kinds of veggies will keep you more full, and provide much needed fiber to "help things along". I would suggest using a food scale to measure your vegetables by weight. It is so much easier to measure veggies in ounces or grams rather than trying to decide how to fill a cup exactly. I think that once you measure properly, subtract fiber, and make more nutrient and fiber rich veggie choices, you will see that you will be eating more food.

                    One thing about doing Atkins - if you fail to plan, you can plan to fail. I don't mean to scare you with that; I just want you to understand that it takes some effort and planning to do this right. Nuts are not allowed during induction, and I would suggest sticking strictly to the Acceptable Foods List.

                    I was wondering, also, if you have read the book? If not, I would suggest doing that. Atkins does work, if done correctly.

                        The most important thing to do is plan... In the beginning if you are hungry..Fry you up a nice steak...That will surely fill you.. I find that Beef fills me more then chicken... Make sure you have your veggies too..

                          I have read the book acually this is my 2nd time going at it. First time I lost ALOT, but I still missed out. I didnt cut caffine and didnt take vitamins. Im really trying to do this coorrectly so I can get the most lost. Mitzi I did change my fitday settingsand thank you, I now have an extra 4 grams to play with and it may sound like a little but its alot to me!!!!!!! That makes me much happier! I started out wrong today cuz of an emergency and nuts were the only thing that were available. I now wish I would have spend the little bit of extra moneyand time I was trying to save and got that sauage mcmuffin and not ate th
                          e muffin . I was totally freaking, I knew I wasn't going to break but I didn't want to mess up what I already started either. Thanks guys its almost 8:00 here and my fitday doesn't look so bad now.

                              I am not understanding the net carb thing. I use fitday too. How do I figure it out??? Maybe I am not eating enough carbs.

                              I was on atkins last year in the early fall and lost about 30 pounds. I obviously gained it back...but I know this is the right diet for me as it works very good. So I am back!
