  • Hey all, new w/questions

    Greetings and salutations to everyone!

    After essentially a lifetime of being overweight and dieting but failing due to being lazy, I decided that this is absurd already. I'm 22 and 330 lbs, which is needless to say way to much. Surprisingly, I hold it well, people say i "can't" weigh more than 250...always been athletic and what not tho. Anyway, I have beeing doing Atkins for 5 days now and down 4lbs thus far. This is going to be the final diet I do.

    1)If I use Keto stix, how true are they, can I still lose weight even if the shade doens't change much?

    2)I know diet drinks are stallers, wut about Diet Coke w/Splenda alright?

    3)How important are the 20grams of carbs from veggies and salad? If I eat mainly meat and chesse and high protein foods, and take vitamins, do I need the carbs, I would like to keep carbs limited to those in Katsup and the occasional onion/brocoli/mushrooms sauteed w/meats.

    Thanks for taking the time to help me and all others out, I hope I can one day be a success story like many of you!

    First off, Atkins is not a diet, its a Way of Life, you learn what your body can and cant eat to lose weight and to maintain your goal weight when you get there.

    Ketostix - are kinda like being pregnant, you're either in it or you're not, if you're in traces you're at the best place, it means your body isnt dehydrated as well as being in ketosis.

    Diet coke with splenda is okay, though i would miss it out for the first 14 days as it has caffeine in it, you can test it after the 14 days to see if your body accepts it.

    YES you need veggies, you MUST eat the 3 cups a day as recommended in DANDR, you are doing your body a danger if you dont follow this vital rule.

      Emma is right, and I wanted to add that although you may think you don't want veggies you ight be surprised to find that you begin enjoying them. That is what happened to me and boy was I surprised. They are just plain tasty now to me when before they weren't. Perhaps some of that has to do with the fact that I can use real butter or cream with them and mmmmm is that good. Also, in part I think it has to do with the fact that, without the usual carby sides, your plate looks awfully empty when you just have a piece of meat sitting there and it gets boring during a meal eating the same food bite after bite. Finally, to be frank, the veggies will help you keep errrrr regular, something that many have a problem with on this diet. Go go fiber power!

        Thanks for the replies. It's not tht I don't like veggies, I just wasn't sure if cutting those carbs out would help to shed the lbs initially. Also, so its good to only have the keto stix xhange a little? I always got discouraged when they werrne' deep purple and would quit?

          yep, traces is the best, it means your body isnt dehydrated!

          and not eating veggies will NOT speed your loss up, it will only hinder you.

            Don't worry too horribly much about the Ketostix's color. If they do not change it doesnt mean you're not in ketosis. I never once made those stupid things change color yet reached my goal with alacrity.

              Our son has type 1 diabetes. His endocrinologist has us use ketostix for him, to check his urine for sugar. As far as I'm concerned, if his endo endorses them, they must be very reliable.

                Hi FALK, welcome to ADBB. When I started Atkins, I was eating veggies only every couple of days and was a little weak. I started eating 3 cups of veggies a day and WOW, I had much more energy. I dont see how anyone can eat just meat and cheese forever. I want you to stay with Atkins untill you reach your goal, so make sure eat your veggies every day take a multivitamin, and you will be very happy with your results.

                  Oh Falk,

                  I'd eat your veggies. do at least 3 cups then when you get done with induction start adding more and more and more.. eat them raw, cooked, grilled... For example.. take a fresh carrot, peel, cut into slices and carry that to work as a snack.. perfect.. add a fried chicken breast with some steamed broccoli and a oz. of cheese.. does it get any better?!?!?!

                  Think of the simple carbs are just a crappy filler whose whole purpose in life is to make you fat.. no value.. just garbage.. You don't need it!
