  • On Day five and I have some questions

Hello, I just joined the forum and have a few questions.
Is table salt allowed? If so how much should I limit myself to a day?

I have two blocks of cheese in the fridge and don't know if they are allowed so I would appreciate it if someone could say whether they are or aren't. I don't know what information to put down so I copied it all out.

    McLelland
    Seriously Strong Cheddar
award winning cheddat with a full tangy flavour
    per 100g
    energy 1700Kj/410Kcal

carbohydrate 0.1 (if which sugars 0.1g)
fat 34.4g (of which saturates 21.7g)
    fibre 0g
    sodium 0.7g
    calcium 740mg

    Mild coloured Cheddar
    Added ingredient: colour: Annatto
the cheese used in this product is made with Vegetarian Chymosin
which is produced using gene technology. No Genetically Modified
material is present in the finished product.
    contains milk
    vegetarian friendly
    Doesn't list any nutritional information

    Thanks

Re: On Day five and I have some questions

Hi, I'm on day 9 and I am new to this forum. First, keep up the good work and congrats for making a positive change. This forum will always have your back! Anyway, the first cheese you mentioned is ok but the vegetarian product might be suspect. When some of the veterans of this site read your question they will let you know for sure about the vegetarian cheese. Keep on with the good work!

I agree with Feelinunlovely.. The first cheese sounds okay the second one is questionable...

Re: On Day five and I have some questions

They both are fine. Chymosin is simply an enzyme used to give the cheese its flavor. It makes no difference to the properties of the cheese whether it's of animal or vegetable origin. It's been purified before use. Many cheeses use enzymes for flavor. The biggest caution with cheese is the amount you eat. It's easy for me to overdo it. 3-4 oz. per day on Induction.

          Thanks for the fast replies

Anyone know about table salt? How much can I use? I have two boiled eggs in the morning and miss salt.

Re: On Day five and I have some questions

I would say yes to the first (within the allowed limits) and no to the second as it contains milk.

I don't think there's any set amount of salt that you can have or not have... just don't overdo it. Too much sodium causes water retention and isn't good for you.
