  • Hello! And a few questions...

    Hi everybody.

I have been reading this site for a few days now, and you all seem a lovely, supportive bunch.

    I have a few questions.

It's the morning of day 3, and I have lost 1lb. Is that good progress? I have a big day coming up on the 2nd July, so I am anxious to get the best results I can.

How long does it take for ketosis to begin?

I have been have some diet pepsi, sugar free jelly, and peanuts. Are these ok too?

    Sorry for all the questions!

Hey Evita! Welcome to the boards and good luck on your journey!

The sugar free jello, diet pepsi, and peanuts are no-nos for induction. The nuts you get to eventually when going through the rungs. The sugar-free jello and diet pepsi will make you crave or make you feel hungry when you aren't. My doctor told me that all carbonated drinks, even diet, can cause your body to hang on to fat. I believe that depends on your intake but I'm still a bigger fan of water. Water ! water! water! Sometimes when we feel hungry or crave, you're actually just thirsty! Water is the best thing for your body. It helps your body flush the fat and toxins that you do not need =)

Do you have a copy of the DANDR? It is sooo helpful! Mine even had a carb counter in it which is pretty handy! It has detailed text about all phases of Atkins and what goes into you body and the changes your body goes through. Through Induction you need to be taking in only 20 carbs a day. The book has a nice list of allowable foods and reasons for not having the others yet. It also has a chapter about Ketosis, which can happen in just 3 days!

I'm sure one of the Atkin Veterns will pop in here with a little more detailed answer to your questions and some more advice!

    Best of luck!

Actually, if I am correct, I believe that he did say that you could have sugar free gelatins as long as they were sweetened with sucralose(SPLENDA). And I meant while on Induction.

Thank you for the replies girls.

I used to have a Dr Atkins books, but moved house and had to get rid of loads of stuff, including books unfortunatley.

Out goes the diet pepsie then! (and the peanuts) Funnily enough, it's not something I every drink, but just thought it would be a nice 'treat'.

Just checked the sugar free jelly ingrediants - aspartame is used.

Hey ho! No worries. I can do this

          Hi Evita

As far as I know none of the ready to mix jellies in UK are sweetened with an 'induction-legal' sweetener like sucralose/splenda.

I make my own using unsweetened gelatine and some splenda or sugarfree davinci syrup.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Ohh, good idea ellen! Thank you.

It's the morning of day 4 and sill only 1lb down :-(

Guess the diet coke, jelly, peanuts etc have hindered my progress.

Don't feel down about this teeny little bump. When you are on induction it's best to think of it as a detox for your body. You need time to reset yourself in order to get your brain back. Those things--diet soda, peanuts, jelly, are all things that we think are legal because they are low carb and sugar free--but too much artifical sweetner can cause cravings and a stall. I also learned this the hard way the first time I did induction.

The good thing though is that all of this is an important learning lesson for you. You are actually re-learning what it is that causes your body to react. You now know that artificial sweetners make your body resist losing weight, an important thing to know when going on this plan and losing weight for the long haul. It's all about learning because your body is unique. Some of us have learned that they can NEVER have artifical sweetners because they cause a bad reaction. Some of us have a sensitivity to nuts, etc. It's all about learning what your body reacts to and listening to it.

I also believe that this learning process is what makes this WOE so successful. It's not like you pop a shake for breakfast and lunch or you pop in a pre-frozen meal for dinner and you don't do any thinking about it.

So take what you've learned and run with it. You can do it!!!

                Hi Meena-Beena

Thank you for your lovely response.

I am pleased to say I 'am doing it'! And enjoying myself too, which I wasn't expecting. I had a lovely meal out a couple of nights ago too.

I think I am now on track, and all set for success! yay!

Yey for you!! I'm so happy to hear that you are doing well and more importantly--ARE ENJOYING YOURSELF! Weight loss doesn't have to be a sad thing.

The funny thing is, I've noticed all the people who go on the Atkins plan are the sweetest bunch of people because they aren't starving like people on other plans. I've probably done them all and I've met some serious grumps doing some crazy diet plans that never work.

Keep at it and you'll be at goal before you know it.

                  ;-)

                    Thank you meena!

                    But how quickly things change.

                    I have started a thread here: http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...ad.php?t=45599

I wasn't sure whether to start a new thread or post here, being new to the forum and all.

I'm not giving up just yet though, but just a bit miffed right now!
