  • Too much protein?

I'm on day four of induction and it seems to be going well, but according to FitDay.com, I'm getting somewhere between 40% and 43% of my calories from protein, and only 52% to 56% from fat. I'm averaging 2% - 4% in carbs.

I know the ratio is supposed to be 65/30/5 so I'm just wondering if this is going to slow down my weight loss?

I go to the gym every day, and include a fair bit of weight training in my workout, along with 30 minutes of cardio.

Any ideas for increasing fat and reducing protein? I tend to grill (broil) most of my food as I don't like fried meat or boiled/steamed veg. I don't really want to stand at the fridge eating cubes of butter/lard lol!

    Re: Too much protein?

during induction its not really a huge deal, though after that you may want to look at it, the excess protein will turn to glucose which of course isnt good.

it doesnt take much to turn the percentages around, cook your meat in butter? that will probably straighten it out!

sorry just re-read, you dont like your meat fried, hmmm okay... you gettin your cheese in?

i cook everything in butter, im obsessed, go thru at least 2 blocks a week!

Emma is right about the excess protein turning to glucose. You don't want that!

It really doesn't take much fat to up the percentages. Add a bit of mayo here, some salad dressing there, dabs of butter - whatever fat tickles your fancy.

I really think the 65/30/5 is meant to be used as a guideline and not a set in stone rule. It something for which to strive but it doesn't have to be exact. As long as you aren't eating too much of any one thing and keeping your carbs in check, you should be fine. And remember, as you climb the rungs, the percentages will change.

Well, I no longer eat salad dressing because it was making my fat too high. Maybe you could start there. Paula's right - it doesn't take much.

          Re: Too much protein?

I think butter seems to be the key! I just put today's food into FitDay and my fat % is up to 63% while protein is down to 33%. I just cooked a chili con carne, using (lots of) butter instead of oil and it made a big difference!

I'm still pretty skeptical about the accurcay of FitDay, but only really because the food you get in England can be very different to the food you get in the USA. Not to mention you guys seem to have a different name for everything - zucchini??? ;-)

Still, I think it's gonna be a pretty useful tool to give me a rough idea of whether I'm on track or not. I'm sure I'll get the hang of it eventually!

          Thanks for all the advice!

            zucchini = courgette, Garwill
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
