  • Coffee during Induction Phase?

Hello, I just started my 2nd week of Induction Phase. I've haven't quit drinking coffee (decaf), just reduced it, but now I'm wondering if I would get even better results when quitting drinking coffee for good.

Does anyone here have had any expieriences dropping coffee for good? Any advice?

    Thanks so much!

If it is decaf it is fine as long as you count your cream (heavy) and sweetner. Not sure if there are carbs to count in decaf tho.

Self, do you feel a difference in your pants or shirts at this point? That is always the first thing I think of. Congratulations on the amazing progress - you are doing so great!

Thanks for the advice to all of you. I drink about 3 small cups of decaf with heavy cream and sweetener each day. So far I lost 10 lbs in 7 days - I guess that's not bad for a start.

              Re: Coffee during Induction Phase?

You know Shelia I do they're a bit looser. I was always and med built guy until college, I was very active but just ate junk, I was in a very unhealthy relationship that was disfunctional. I ended that and had balloned up to 300+ pounds. I was able to work most of it off, eatting lean proteins and eattign 6 times a day very small meals that is. I work for a christian radio station and one day I received an e-mail from a young lady, who heard me talk about my weight loss. I was commenting on how I lost tons of weight but regained alot when my wife was preganet with our first child. I adviced her to pray and to be proactive, I recommened doing the 6 meals a day because it worked so well for me. She tried it and much like you was sad when she never dropped a pound. I kept her on my mind as I worked of my weight and eventually I hit a plateau. For 3 months I was stuck at 223.8 pounds and boy I was sick of it, imagine going full speed and BAM you hit a wall!! I didn't want to do aktins because I've had kidney stones (many of them) but instead of whinning I got educated on the forum. I decided to start up a week ago and I have blown past my road block and Yes It feels great. In no time at all I'll be back to looking great for my wife and most importantly to think I can be around to see my baby and family grow. I knwo this a long winded anwser, but I know you're a person of faith and could understand and appreciate why God brings people into your life.

                    Re: Coffee during Induction Phase?

Just make sure you count the coffee and sweetner in your carb count. Three cups of coffee with sweetner and heavy cream will probably be about 6grms of carb in total. I allow 1 carb for each cup of coffee and another for each sweetner. I don't use cream. I've definetly reduced my coffee count, I'm down to one cup per day, whereas I'd usually have had at least 5 or 6!

It really is a "your mileage may vary" sort of thing. It stalls some, others aren't affected.

Dr. Atkins says that we are to avoid excess caffeine, 3 cups of decaf isn't excess. However, the carb counts may be more than you want to spend on just coffee. It's your choice.

                        Re: Coffee during Induction Phase?

Thanks to all of you. Today I didn't drink coffee at all ... I missed it though! I do need the sweetener and cream to make it tasteful to me, but right now I realised that it's really not worth the carbs I gotta count. So I will try to go without coffee for a couple of days and see how it goes and what effects it will have on my weight loss progress.

I was and still am extremely hungry today ... don't know if that has something to do with not having coffee. I ate enough so far. Hmmm? Hopefully tomorrow is better.

Anyways, thanks again - this Forum rocks!

                          Hi SwissMiss! (love the name)

I have one cup with breakfast. I only take half and half so my carb count is 2. I don't crave the caffeine or anything, I just think it tastes great with eggs. If I was eating cereal, I wouldn't even be tempted to drink it.

Just wondering.......do you input your foods into fitday or something like it? The reason I ask is because I realized that on days I have 70% or higher in fat, the less hungry I am. For example, yesterday my percentages were 73% fat, 5% carb and 22% protein. Today, after dinner they will be 70% fat, 5% carb and 25% protein. I had to remind myself today to eat! I don't have the cravings if my fat intake is high. That's why I was wondering what yours were. Maybe increase your fat? I don't know. That's weird that caffeine can give you cravings, but you got cravings without it!

                            Hi DisGal,

I actually joined FitDay.com today and put in what I've been eating the last couple of days and mine are 68% Fat / 6% Carbs / 26% Protein. Gosh this site is really great and makes you understand Carbcounts! Kinda shocking too. Looks like I went over the 20 Net Carbs today as I had Chinese Chicken with Soysauce and Veggies without the rice for lunch. But oh well... lesson learnt! Tomorrow is a new day with a different meal plan and I will try to eat more fat - hope your tipp works for me too.

I already decided to go on extended induction for another 1-2 weeks ... but that's gonna be a different story in a different thread.

Thanks for your advice & have a great day!
