  • 20 lbs in 2 weeks!!??

Obviously it is impossible that all 20 lbs lost over the past 2 weeks are fat. Anyone have a guess on how much is fat?

ps. I never dropped caffeine but was stict with the carbs and I work out for an hour daily.

    height: 5'10"
    weight: 190

a year ago I weighed 275 and lost 65 on Macrobiotics (Japanese lifestle) which I will return to once I am down to 170.

WAY TO GO ON 20 POUNDS. I have no clue on the fat vs. water. Someone will answer shortly. Keep up the good work.

Re: 20 lbs in 2 weeks!!??

Were you using the same scale and weighing under similar circumstances (ie: same time of day, wearing the same clothing, etc.)?

In general, we can expect to lose between 5-10% of the weight we need to lose during the first 14 days of Atkins. So a person with a 10 pound weight loss goal can expect to lose 1/2 to 1 pound and a person with a 100 pound weight loss goal can expect to lose 5-10 pounds. Is it possible for a person with a 50 pound weight loss goal to lose 20 pounds in 2 weeks? Yes it is, provided that person has a very low metabolic resistance to weight loss.

As for water v. fat loss....The initial weight loss for all diets is water. Dr. Atkins wrote that after the first few days, the majority of the weight loss on his diet is primarily fat---provided you are doing the diet correctly. Sometimes we get people who think that by tweaking Atkins (ie: eating low fat, eating very low calorie, eating no vegetables, etc.) is "doing Atkins correctly" or will "enhance" their losses. I feel sorry for these folks because they don't understand that Atkins isn't a "crash" diet and that Atkins doing Atkins incorrectly can lead to muscle loss along with fat loss.

WOW Congrats to you! I have barely lost 4 pounds in the week and a half since I started. But I do feel alot better so I am happy, but 20 pounds would have made me jump up and down or something....just WOW WOW WOW

Deebean, I looked at your prior posts. July 6 was your Day 11 and you posted in this thread that you were 12 pounds down.

Re: Do I dare drink DietCoke?
It really depends on the person. I didn't drop caffeine at all and am on day 11 with a 12 lb weight loss. I also have an underactive thyroid but I do run everyday.
So you might want to make sure you are using the same scale that you measured your previous weights on to make sure it's not calibration problem with the weights. Your previous post indicates you were losing about 1.1 pounds daily. So if you continued losing at a rate of 1.1 pounds per day, then on Day 14 your loss would be more like 15.4 than 20.

this is all i can figure out

"Many people experience rapid initial weight loss on Atkins, some of which is due to depletion of glycogen stores in the liver. Loss of glycogen is associated with loss of water weight, since the body stores up to four pounds of water for each pound of glycogen."

but just couldn't find out how much glycogen we have
