  • Unable to stay asleep...is this a side effect?

    Hello Everyone,

I was just wondering if anyone has experience sleep disruptions, ie: unable to stay asleep or unable to rest since they started or were in the induction phase?

I have found that the last 2 nights (I am on day 6) I have been unable to stay asleep. I fall no problem, but staying is another thing . I usually get up around 7:30a.m. and I think (without looking at the clock) I am up at around 5:30a.m.'ish. It's no biggie, but I was just wondering if anyone else had the same.

    Thanks

I know that I definitely require LESS sleep nowadays. I used to sleep in until 11 am now I am up by 9-9:30 am without fail! Even on my days off! If you aren't feeling deprived and tired then I'd consider is a good thing! Maybe it's your body giving you time to sneakl in some exercise? haha! I think it's great I'm not as big a laze as I used to be.

yes, it's a side effet for me, but a wonderful one. i'm not a morning person, and when i'm struggling with being overweight, i'm barely an afternoon person. my body just doesn't want to let me get out of the bed no matter how much my mind tells me i need to get up. now i wake up on my own (way early i.e. 7am) and feel great. i'm not tired or groggy, i get up ready to start my day with breakfast and exercise. it's a wonderful thing.

      goodluck to you

Yeah, I get that too. I'm feeling fantastic on 5-6 hours sleep a night. I work 12 hour shifts so part of it is probably getting used to not physically having time for too much sleep. Having said that, I've noticed in the last two weeks I'm waking up on my own a lot earlier than I normally would, and feeling so alive and full of energy!

I've definately noticed that I don't need as much sleep and am waking up earlier, which is a good thing. I've also noticed that my sleep is so much deeper and much more satisfying. Prior to Atkins, I would wake up several times a night and wake up in the mornings feeling as if I hadn't slept at all. This was true even for the days I didn't have to get up early and would sleep until 9:00. Not anymore!

Yup, carbs and sugar make you tired, lethargis and sleepy.
Now that you don't eat them, you're finding out how much sleep that you actually require.

it is very interesting this issue, some in dietaatkins are having this sleep problem, they can not sleep, the book does not say anything about it, it just said that you may need less asleep hours, but not that you are going to have sleep disruptions.

Re: Unable to stay asleep...is this a side effect?

for me this is not a good thing, I have trouble falling asleep and wake up at night...not like I'm getting up but like I just don't sleep through the night.
And I HAVE to be up by 6 and leave the house by 7 which means I feel like cr*p all day.
I've never been someone to sleep more than 8 or 9 hours but this is starting to drive me crazy, I'm now on OWL and have no energy whatsoever.

Re: Unable to stay asleep...is this a side effect?

Atkins has had a good effect on my sleep. After going most of my life with no problems, for the past few years I had been waking up every 90 minutes and it would take 20-30 minutes to drop back to sleep; I'm guessing because I was at my heaviest.

Since I've been on Atkins, the only time I wake up is to use the bathroom once, maybe twice (all that water), but I go back to sleep right away. I also feel fine with 6 to 7 hours sleep instead of waking up groggy even after 8 hours.

Re: Unable to stay asleep...is this a side effect?

                      Lads and ladies,
When you're overweight and eating garbage, you sleep much more.
When you're oiverweight but no longer eating the garbage, you sleep less cos the carbs arent having a sleepy effect on you.
Atkinising and induction, you really neewd to start exercising too, you have to burn up the fat, just being on Atkins isnt enough.
You'll lose weight on Atkins yes, a little, even though you are inactive, but get a pair of trainers on and get out there and get walking.
The weight will melt off, you'll feel great, and you'll sleep soundly.
