  • First Post...Pretty Please help me

Hi everyone.. My name is Molly and I am 25, from the US.

Started Atkins on 7/18/07 and did GREAT until Friday. Gorged on fresh fruit, watermelon, pineapple, papaya and grapes.

Having trouble staying on now. Thank god for my husband or I would have eaten the bread that came with my Philly Cheesesteak tonight (he made me throw it in the garbage while he watched. He said if he can't have bread, nobody can..)
Also, I havent really lost any weight. My clothes still feel the same, I have lost .2 lbs (he's lost 5) and I generally feel like crap most of the time (tired, lethargic...etc) also, I am 'backed up' like nobody's business. I finally had a BM today after nothing since Monday.

I did start new B.C. this week and I am also hypothyroid which doesn't help.

Am I doing this right? Is this normal?
I am trying to do this as close as I can to the book.

    My typical day

Breakfast: Jimmy Dean egg and ham omlette 4 carbs
Lunch: Ceasar Salad, side of chicken/cheese. Fajita's no tortilla/bean/rice.
Dinner: Protein and Veggies (califlower and salad) cheese
Snacks: Veggies (celery, broccoli, cukes, peppers dipped into homemade herb and sour cream dip. Brie or gouda)
Dessert: Ricotta cheese with splenda, almond and vanilla extracts
Drinks: Decaf peach iced tea w/fresh lemon. Occasional Diet Dr pepper. Water, TONS of non sweet flavored seltzers (0 cals/carbs/sugars, no sweetners)

What do you think? Also, I am getting really really bored with breakfast. it's the frozen kind and it's a bit of a frankenfood. I really don't enjoy natural eggs (I like the powdered kind.. I know.. I know)

I am NOT excercising right now, I do plan on at least 15 mins a day to start..tomorrow.

also, this board is amazing!!!! I am so happy I finally got access!!!

carby things will do this to you, so make sure you have plenty of 'legal' snacks available for when the munchies strike as well as trying to work out a stragegy fopr avoiding doing it again next time!.

you are lucky to have such a strict support team.

Dr Atkins does say that some BC pills as well as thyroid problems can impede weightloss, so it might be one of those affecting your weightloss.

How much weight in total are you hoping to lose?
We can expect to lose 5-10% of our hoped for total loss

And (naturally) men usually lose faster than women!!

Your meals look fine to me as long as you are sticking to the 3-4 ounces of cheese, 3 servings of sweetener and 3 cups of vegetables.

Make sure you check the ingredients list of any prepared/processed foods you buy as well as the carb content to make sure no sugar/corn syrup/fructose/any other aliases for sugar are included in them!!
Well done on deciding to exercise too
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

Feeling tired and lethargic is simply because you are not used to not having a lot of glucose in your bloodstream. I've gotten rid of this feeling by eating a tomato or two, add some broccoli or more natural carbs. An onion to a stir fry is not a bad idea. You get the fiber, good for the being backed up, and you get vitamins. You could add some cheese but that is just going to bind you up even worse. Add veggies to eliminate lethargy.

In addition, the first phase of the atkin's is important but no one is going to come out and arrest you if you decide that you want to move into ongoing weight loss sooner than 2 weeks. In an ideal world everyone does induction, everyone moves onto OWL, etc.. the reality is that many people don't make it past induction and it is, in fact, the hardest part of the diet for many people. Better to increase your veggie carbs and see if that makes you feel better than to completely give up, which I really feel is a possibility with you.

      I await your response.

hey molly! welcome to the forum.

you say you are hypothyroid.. but i assume that the problem is being fixed via medication? If not, you are going to have a tough time losing weight. also BC's can screw with weight loss, but this is all dependent on the person and the BC, which some have varying amounts of hormones. also, TOM can have a fun effect on weight.. being a woman is fun..

Now your diet. yes, exercise is mandatory, but start slow. walking is a great way to start off. After a bit, you can increase walking to brisk walking, then slow jog when you're ready.. etc..

Thank you for all of your feedback. I am going to increase my veggies and start walking.

I am going to try and stick out induction but it has become my own personal ****....
I am being treated for thyroid and the BC is brand new to me...

All I crave is fruit.. not bread, not ice cream.. but fruit?? If I had this problem I would never weigh 200 lbs in the first place!

            Hi, Molly!

You've already got some great information. I just wanted to pass on some support to ya. You can do it!

What a great hubby you have!

It's not easy at first, but the more you focus on the overall goal, you will find that eating the Atkins way with the combo of exercise, water, and vitamins becomes a way of eating for life. It's a life style that has no promises of quick weight loss, but it promises a life style of feeling free to enjoy the foods that work for you. And the way to do that is to make it through the stages successfully. Hang tough!
