  • Getting A Little Discouraged!

I'VE BEEN ON ATKINS FOR 14 DAYS SO FAR AND I'VE LOST 6 POUNDS WHICH ISN'T ALL THAT GREAT FOR TWO WEEKS. I STARTED AT 211 AND NOW I'M AT 204-206 UP AND DOWN ON THE SCALE! I JOG, POWER WALK, AND DO STAIR STEPS 4-6 DAYS A WEEK, DRINK ABOUT 84 OUNCES OF WATER A DAY....I'M EATING A LOT OF SALAD AND LESS MEAT, WHEN WILL THE SCALE PUT A SMILE ON MY FACE, I DON'T KNOW WHAT ELSE TO DO.

    Hi Shan!
6 lbs is 6 lbs and in the right direction too!
How 'bout your fat intake? are you getting enough to kick start the ketosis? sometimes that can be it... also you are exersizing alot. maybe it's muscle?
hang in there and go back over DANDR it's a really good book. Everytime I re-read it I learn something new.

      Re: Getting A Little Discouraged!

I've heard that sometimes when you work out you actually build muscle which weighs more than fat. However, like hope said - 6 lbs is 6 lbs! I also read that after people have kept up with atkins they will lose a BUNCH at once... then they may not lose for a while then they may lose a BUNCH more. So I would say don't give up yet Just stick with it and we will see results! Good luck and let me know if you need any support. I'm just in my first week, but we're all here to support one another!

That amounts to 3 pounds a week which is fantastic! Don't be discouraged. Some people lose more during induction than others. It all depends on how much we have to lose, how we exercise, what we eat and how much water we drink (and how many trips to the potty we make). You're doing great!

              Shan,

When you first started did you measure? The tape measure can be your best friend, especially when the scale isn't! Keep working hard, you'll see more results in no time!

i agree with upping your fat intake, meat is your friend! Make sure you aren't going over the recommended veggie amounts for induction. 2 Cups salad veggies, 1 Cup other veggies. I think that has been the key to my success this time around, just really enjoying the meat, satisfying my appetite and then having my allowed veggies for the day. Best of luck to you!

6 pounds is good, better than me and I have been on induction for about 4 weeks. I just read Chapter 20 in DANDR and think that I could possibly be metabolic resistance, so I am trying to add the supplements that he recommends.

Kristianne, I clicked on your fit day, and was wondering how you figured out the counts for the Big Mac with no bun? I have a problem trying to get that kind of stuff in fitday. Thanks.

I am a "Second Time Arounder". The most valuable thing I have learned this time around is patience. In order for this to become a way of life we need to stop putting a time line on weight loss. It is hard because we want to measure our success. It motivates us ALOT. Try measuring how you feel, and notice how your clothes will get looser. And they WILL. There are alot of bumps along this road so hold on tight, follow the plan, visit these forums, be proud of your progress and enjoy your food!

MacD has a web page where you can find out that info.

Here is the entry for their Big Mac http://app.mcdonalds.com/bagamcmeal?...=item&itemID=5
you can untick the bits you are not going to eat - like the bun (which has 37 net carbs ) and click on 'recalculate' to get the revised info.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!
