  • 5 days in, only 4lbs down

It's my 5th day on Atkins Induction and I'm down 4 lbs. I lost that after the first day. Since then, I have yet to drop another pound! I'm getting kind of frustrated. I was hoping to lose a lot more than that. I work out 5 days a week and haven't cheated at all.

Does anyone have any ideas why my weight loss has stalled? Is it because of the diet coke I drink or anything? HELP!

Post your diet and the experts here will take a look at it...no reason it shouldn't be working...and don't forget you have carbs in the diet coke...

Re: 5 days in, only 4lbs down

For breakfast I've been having a piece of sausage and one of the Atkins bars that it listed as an Induction apporoved food on the website, then for lunch I have a piece of meat, a piece of string cheese, and a side salad with oil or 2 cups of green beans with green chili and a little sour cream, then for a snack I'll have some celery sticks, and then for dinner, I'll either have tuna and vegetables or a small burger and vegetables.

I count each diet coke I have as 1 carb like it says to and I never exceed the 20 grams a day limit of carbs, so I'm not sure why my weight loss has just stalled.

If anyone has any advice that can help, please let me know! Thanks.

I just started as well, but I read somewhere on here that the bars really shouldn't be used as a meal all the time especially during induction, and does the chili have beans in it? that is not induction friendly either.

I was a soda drinker as well, I went to diet then to NOTHING.. I have drank NOTHING but water in over a month. Good job so far keep it up.

My suggestion....get the 2002 version of the book and leave the Atkins website to the internet world. They have a lot of miss information added after Dr. A passed away.

You lost 4 pounds in 5 days...thats great! You're not stalled if it's only been 5 days...your body's adjusting. However, if you ditch the diet coke, you may notice less water rention.

Power up your exercise, drink your water, and enjoy the Atkins way of eating without the bars, shakes, or anything other product other than what's listed on the Induction list (also found on the Induction forum of this site).

          Best wishes!

Guess you haven't heard the term "Frankenfood" yet...well, those bars are part of it, and the shakes...Like everyone says, you MUST read the book..and reread it...you won't get all the info the first time around. I suggest you quit the bars and the diet soda and you will see a big difference...Good luck and take care...

              Sandra,
I guess maybe green chili is only a New Mexico thing. Green chili is a spice, like a jalopeno and it doesn't have any carbs. It's not Texas chili with beans and beef and such.

I'm allergic to eggs which is why I don't eat them for breakfast. If the bars are so bad, why does it put them on the Meal Plan for induction on the website to have for either breakfast or a snack?

I think 4 pounds in 5 days is great!

Yup, the atkins bars are your answer. You can read up on sugar alcohols and other frankenstuff that's in them. The truth is, with the bars you can forget about net carbs. If it's 18 carbs per bar, you are most definitely eating 18 carbs. It's always better to heat fresh, whole foods than anything processed.

Some say that the diet sodas also can halt weight loss.

After Dr. Atkins passed away, there was a great big push for the sale of all the Atkins products. If you notice on each level of this way of eating listed on the website, Atkins products are touted as "legal". If you read through the 2002 book, you'll read that Dr. A wanted these products but to be used sparingly and with need such as "emergency" purposes or out of convinence...but not to be used in the solid idea of changing eating habits to form a new way of life through the Atkins eating program.

If you're allergic to eggs, there's a lot of great, fresh foods you can chose to eat during this way of eating. You just have to be extra creative and think outside the box when it comes to eating meals, such as breakfast. Tofu is one item I've seen a lot of folks use instead of eggs. Perhaps that can work for you

Re: 5 days in, only 4lbs down

I lost almost 8 pounds my first week, then I gained my second week because I was eating the Atkins bars, and drinking shakes. I thought it was okay too because the Atkins site says it is. But if you look at the ingredients, they are not induction friendly at all. Once I stopped eating/drinking them I started losing again. I'd stop and see what happens. I bet you'll be pleasantly surprised

Well I went out today and bought the book (thank you for the suggestion) and I returned ALL the bars I had bought and got egg substitute instead (which has no carbs and I'm not allergic to) that I will have for breakfast every morning instead. I guess I'll start induction all over again tomorrow, even though I've technically been on it for 5 days, I'll start fresh with the right stuff. I'm still down 4 lbs so we'll see what happens from here!

Also, is it harder for people who have less weight to lose to lose the weight? I only have 29 lbs total to lose now. Just wondering!

And yes, the less you have to lose the slower it comes off, BUT IT WILL COME OFF!!!
                          Good luck sweetie

Good for you for geting rid of the bars! I just wanted to add to Apple's post that Atkins corporation is what sells the bars/shakes. They are in this to make money, whereas on the board we're all here to lose weight and support one another. We don't need bars to do that!

Generally the less you have to lose it is a bit slower than someone who has lots to lose, but that's only in the beginning. I think everyone's loss tapers after a while.

I'm so glad to hear you invested your hard earned money. The book is priceless with the wealth of information. I forgot to about the egg substitute...I think a few folks here on the board also use them because of their allergies to eggs. I hope you'll have great success with them.

Yes, studies and stories of success have shared that the less weight you have to take off, the longer it may take. What's great about this eating plan is that it's a life style change and worth the time and effort.

Cheers to great start to your new adventure
