  • Emotional eating and induction...

Hi! Just started Atkins for the second time... finding that as ready as I thought I was to make it through, I am having the same difficulty as last time. Changing jobs right now, just finishing university and also trying to adjust to a new marriage. Figured that I was ready to lose the 45 lbs. I gained over the past three years, but now I find that I can't balance that desire with the junk food cravings. Every day that I look for work and don't know where things are at, I want to drown the anxiety with carbs, carbs and MORE CARBS!

Any ideas on how I can make it through these first weeks?? Any recipes that will help with the emotional eating and not screw up induction? I really want SUGAR!!!!

    Thanks!!

    Re: Emotional eating and induction...

    Hello,

I can say I have done atkins diet maybe four times. I always gave up by the third day. This time I was determined to do at least two weeks cheat free just to see if the craving would go away. I am kind of in the same situation as you. I have three children one being only 7 mo. and a stay at home mom. I have gained a total of 90lbs since my first child. I crave sugar and I crave carbs. However, I have been cheet free except for a few beers last Saturday at a B-day party. I gave it a chance and by day four I havent had a craving but once and that was for a Ritz cracker that I had in my bag as a back up for the kids. Used positive thinking and it went away. Also one thing that I learned when doing weight watchers once was that a craving only last a few minutes and if you drink water and wait it out, it should go away. Not really sure if thats true but it seemed to work that day (I LOVE Ritz crackers, I can eat the whole box)I use to catch myself dismissing my thoughts of "No you shouldnt have that" (you know, positive thinking) But there was a posting a couple of days ago from a guy who was talking about emotional eating and how most of it is mental. I really belive that because the part of me lately that has been wanting food and trying to dismiss the positive thoughts is slowing but surely leaving. Sometimes I sit and wonder why I didnt just wait all those other times and I would have been done by now. Tomorrow is day 7 and I have to say. I love my carbs and fast food. Belive me, if I can do it you can to. So far im 10 pounds down. You really need to give ketosis a chance to kick in. From what the book says and from what I have expereinced. It really is an appetite suppressor. Hope this helps. Good Luck!!

True, true what 4ever said. White knuckle it for a few days and you will see that what she said is correct. I think once you start seeing substantial losses you will be motivated by the fact that you don't want to ruin the good work you have done.

Remember, the carbs will not solve anything. They will actually make things worse. Hang in there and both the job and this woe will get easier.

For me, I found that whenever I had an emotional carb craving, it was easily combatted by having something fatty instead. Bacon as a snack is one of my favorites and can be a lifesaver during the first couple of weeks of induction.
