  • embarrasing question but I have to ask!

    Hello,

This is day 10 on induction for me. However, I am having a problem with constipation. I am drinking 100 oz of water a day and getting in high fiber veggies. I have also tried adding fiber supplements to my diet. I have always had problems with being constipated but I have been about five days without a BM. Can someone please help? Is there anything that I can take that is induction friendly? Sorry if I made anyone uncomfortable with this question!

    Thanks!!

4everhopeful, don't be embarrase. I think most of us if not all of us go through this at one point or another. Now 5 days without a BM sounds a little too much. I personally take flaxseed supplements (3 a day) to help out. Excercise helps my metabolism and for BM's. Also, are you eating the right percentages for induction? 65/5/30. IF you're not having enough fat in your diet and bunch of fiber then this will happen. Go to FitDay and that'll help you keep track of your percentages. Also, you can try the "muffin in a minute" for breakfast. The recepie is somewhere in the recepie threads. That can help you right now. Check it out and good luck to you.

Not an embarassing question at all! People either are like you, or have the opposite problem sometime in the first couple of weeks.

What works without fail is adding flax seed to your food intake. You can buy it ground at Walgreens, Target, and health food stores - some grocery stores sell it, too.

You can nuke 2 tablespoons with some water to make a hot cereal, or mix it with water and a little salt and nuke it for longer to make a cracker (YUMMY with melted cheese!) or.....well, there are a ton of ideas in the recipe section.

Anyway, it works fast, it works well, and it is a great source of fiber. You will want to incorporate it into your woe from now on. Go get some!

I think you should go to the chemist and get some Movicol if its been 5 days. I have the same issue SEVERELY and no about of fiber has ever helped. my doctor makes me drink Movicol for the chemist to help.... 5 days is a serious issue that can leave to bowel impactions.

You can check out Miralax at your local pharmacy. I don't know if it has any carbs in it. Excellent for constipation. It recently became available over the counter vs. having to get a script from your doctor.

              Not embarrassing at all!

My suggestion is totally different from all the others.

I had a bit of constipation until I started slopping olive oil over everything I eat. Now it all slips out very easily!

Hey, how long can you stay on induction? I plan to do it for 60 days. Is that safe?
4everhopeful- I heard some nurses on a radio show talking about bowel movements and they said that some people can go 10 days without one and still be normal. I drink a cup of coffee every morning and that has me going about 15 minutes later. I never had a problem with constipation before this diet but I have had it since day 4. Try some coffee, it might help.

Re: embarrasing question but I have to ask!

I think I had that problem in the beginning but I actually balanced out nicely. Sometimes time is all you need. (good suggestion about olive oil. I call it "the nectar of the Gods" for many reasons)

Meaty, I really suggest you move off Induction sooner than you think you should. I stuck with Induction for some time because I enjoyed it and found it simple - so nice and cut and dry. However, now that I have moved to OWL rung one I am losing weight more quickly and loving veggies more and more.

tack- how long did you stay on it? Why do you think it is that you've been losing more on owl?

i've been on induction for a year. I went to owl for 2 months a put on 10 pounds. I did it properly - beleive me. I weighed and added back a small portion of veggies every cycle. Everyone is different. I do not understand why moving to OWL would make someone lose faster. If someone can give me a medical explaination rather than 'It did for me somehow', i'd love to hear it.

Dr. Atkins actually brings this point up in DANDR. He recommends Psyllium Husks. For more on the benefits you can visit here: http://www.answers.com/topic/psyllium?cat=health
