  • veggies, carbs and all the rest...

Heres the thing. If on induction, atkins says eat 2 cups of romaine and another cup of another allowed vegetable. I did this today and got no where near my allotted 20 carbs...i prolly ate like at most 8 or 10 carbs for the day. So, can we have more veggies if carb values allow? I'd really love a huge salad, instead of these little bit ones...I didnt realize how small a cup of romaine actually was until I measured it out. But its romaine, for crying out loud, so cant we just eat tons of it? Wont it be helpful for digestion anyways?

and also, i find that im not eating enough calories. how do i get more in without extra carbs...just load up on the burgers and fish? lol. but seriously! i think I ate 800 calories today and thats just not healthy at all.

    thanks everyone

I would eat more in my salad besides lettuce. Bell peppers, mushrooms, cucumbers all have more carbs the romaine, I think. Also to get more calories I would add more fat. Cream cheese, cheese are good ways to add more fat and calories (plus it gives you calcium).

Do you eat breakfast? I love eggs and have eggs every morning and make devilled eggs for snacks.

I hope this helps. Maybe someone else can give you more tips.

There are certain veggies that have a lil higher carb count, try adding them into your meals, check fitday. Also to up your calories use butter, mayo and heavy whipping cream. I find if my fat is around 70% I lose more.

You are allowed to consume UP TO 20 carbs per day in induction. Those carbs can come from veggies (only 2 cups of leafy greens plus one other veggie) and from other foods such as cheese.

After induction, you can start on the Ongoing WeightLoss Rungs (OWL). The first rung allows you to add more veggies.

Sounds like that's what you are doing.

If you don't want to be in Ongoing Weight Loss, and you want to be in induction, then you must stick to the veggie limits.

I would say that for the most part, I get between 7 and 15 net carbs per day. Usually in the lower range.

The way to get more veg carbs is to change the ones you choose from the 'salad veg' list!!

I seldom only eat lettuce as I think of it as being 'chewy water' with little nutrition.
Bell peppers (capsicums/sweet peppers), celery, cucumber, radishes, jicama, mushrooms etc have more carbs as well as minerals and vitamins in them!!

Earlier this year we had a 'Veggie Challenge' where people managed to get 12-14 carbs from their induction veggies, so it can be done!!
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

yep, go with what everyone here said.
I left out lettuce almost completely during induction because I had trouble getting close to the 20 with that, actually I still have now that I'm on rung 2.
Try to go for the veggies with more carbs and fill the rest up with cream cheese, whipped cream and so on.
for calories, beef is a good thing to eat, that one has loads of calories and of course adding butter, oil and so on.
sounds like you are doing well already, just some adjustments and you are fine.
Date to reach goal: I don't care, as long as it happens :P

As Elizellen said, there are many more vegetables on the "salad list". In fact, there are about 20 vegetables listed on the "salad" list and they aren't 20 different kinds of lettuce!

You shouldn't go over 20 net carbs daily during Induction. You have to count the carbs to all the foods you eat/drink. For example, eggs, cream, cheese, powdered artificial sweetener, some luncheon meats/cold cuts/processed meats, etc. Therefore the carbs of these foods are counted in the daily carb totals.

For most people, we average about 10-15 net carbs daily---after all the veggie and other non-veggie food carbs are counted.
