  • Having a "Party" -- what to do??

So I thought I would start induction towards the middle to end of August. After thinking about it, I said no, I was going to start now - I didn't need two more weeks of eating crappy, that would be going in the wrong direction.

I am hosting a crop this weekend and am not sure what to do now that I am on induction interms of what to serve...basically I just need some ideas on finger foods/snacks and the main dinner. The original plan was mm's, pretzels, etc. and we'd order pizza for dinner (I'm not cooking)...now I'm not sure what to do...anyone have any suggestions??

Hi there. Good for you on starting 2 week earlier. You can servd things like chicken wings, roast beef/turkey/chicken breast wraps, pepper jack/mozerrella/cheddar cheese cubes, a veggie tray with blue cheese or ranch dressing, pepperoni crisps, salami, beef or chicken fajitas, guacamole, and chips (just make sure you don't eat those). You can also have Diet Rite flavored drinks to share with the others. Let me know if this helps.

That's a tricky one since you'll probably be feeling yucky this weekend with some form of induction flu. If you can stomach it, don't change your menu but make sure you get your Atkins friendly meal in and stay away from the rest of the stuff you serve.

Have a ton of water and if someone offers you something tell them you are allergic. That's gotten me out of a few sticky spots.

The worst part is when the party is over and the leftovers that go with it. I'd try to make small "doggie" bags to hand out to get rid of the candy, etc. Kids love that sort of thing.

I would say it's all up to how you'll feel that day. Good luck to you and fill us in on how it goes.

Some of my favourite 'finger foods' are:
        ham/cheese rollups
        smoked salmon/asparagus rollups
sweet red peppers (the pointy ones) stuffed with cream cheese
They can be chilled and sliced and laid out in pretty patterns to look festive.

Meena beena's suggestion of eating a filling Atkins meal beforehand so you wont be tempted into eating too much non-induction foods is a great one and something I often did when I was a new Atkineer.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

          Mmmmmm...those look good!

I agree...eat a nice healthy filling fatty meal before you host the party, but provide great satisfying finger foods to share!

I made stuffed mushrooms this past weekend when it was my turn to host the family dinner.

2 pounds of large mushrooms....remove stem and "hallow" out a little keeping the mushroom in tack
          1 8oz cream cheese....softened
          Seasoning...salt/pepper/garlic powder

Line a cookie sheet with aluminum foil (so it'll catch the drips).
Preheat oven to 400 degrees f
Wash and place mushrooms on covered sheet
          Mix creamcheese with seasoning
Fill each mushroom cap with 1 TBL of creamcheese mix
Bake for about 15-20 minutes in over, or under broiler for about 10 minutes until Creamcheese starts to brown

I actuallly made about 30 of these and they were a great appetizer before dinner. I bascially sauted the stems and scooped out leftovers in a little butter and seasoning to use over the roast that I cooked. You might even chop up the stems and scoops really fine and mix it in the cream cheese for more "meaty" taste.

a platter of olives, cubed cheese, pepperoni, celery and blue cheese for dipping would be good
