  • Eating Bacon

I started induction last week and I have a few questions. I bought some bacon and was wondering what the limit is on the amount of it I can eat. Or should I eat it at all. Some friends of mine were saying I won't lose weight eating bacon. That bacon was not something I should eat. I am just learning about atkins and I need to know if bacon is okay. Also how much bacon might be allowed.

    Thanks,

bacons fine, just watch for sodium and sugar, read the labels on everything you buy...

how much should you eat? well how much do you need to eat?

If you have a Kroger close by, they have a sugar free, lower sodium bacon that's very good.

I found that Jimmy Dean bacon doesn't have sugar and the sodium in it is lower.

            Thanks for all the info.

I really need something I like to satisfy me. I am still feeling hungry a lot. Plus I can't eat salads or raw veggies because of stomach problems. I haven't had bacon in ages and it is something I really have missed.

One of my favorites for a fast dinner is to cut up bacon and put about a half a cup of water-chestnuts in with it as it fries. A little green salad and you have a quick crunchy dinner. This is like those appetizers.. ramaki.. Very good and it's on the induction diet. Though I have to be careful... if I eat bacon two days in a row I'll slow down...

What about bacon at deli's? The ones in the plates under the cabnet? How do you tell if they were cured in sugar? It doesnt say, and when i asked the pubescent kid behind the counter he looked at me like i had a growth on my head that was talking.

LOL... I know that kid... He's the generic issue 17 year old boy!

Actually there is little way to know. Either ask the manager or pass on it, just to be safe.

                    Re: Eating Bacon

LOL Yeah, I work with this kid. You need to tell him to go into the cooler where they keep the rest of the bacon and read the label on the package or box. I'd still pass on it, cuz he could read the nutritional info off the wrong box.

I won't eat it unless I'm the one taking it out of the package... that way I'm as sure of what I'm eating as I can be.

just a tip with eating bacon: eat it slowly. Savour all that smoky flavour.

You can cook most of the veggies on the salad list as well as eat the ones on the other list either cooked or raw depending on how you like them.

Cooking the 'salad list' ones also makes them much less bulky, so if you are one of the 'dont like veggies' brigade (not alone here I assure you, many people have problems initially finding ones they can eat happily) it is a good way of getting them down!!

A whole bell pepper (sweet pepper in UK) cut into strips and sauteed in butter or oil makes a fairly small tasty dollop of 'garnish' to put over a nice cut of meat!!
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

If you cut the endive in half length wise and saute it in a little olive oil and butter it's really tasty!

                            Hi Monroe,

It's regular bacon, not turkey and it's the Kroger brand. Hope you find some, it's yummy!
