  • New and Confused!

    Hi,
I'm a restarter and i need some help. I gave up atkins coz i didn't really enjoy the food so i decided this time round to actually follow the recipes and take time out to cook really nice food but i'm a little stuck and have some questions

    1. It says in the book not to eat anything not on the acceptable foods list, but when i look for induction recipes some of them have ingredients in them not on the acceptable foods list. Like proper baking ingredients

Like: Soya Flour, Cocoa powder, baking powder, vanilla extract/syrup. Are these things allowed, and if so can someone please tell me what i can and can't have. I'm really confused. I'm a rubbish cook and i need recipes to help me!

actually...this is the only question i have at the moment, i'm sure to have lots more, so will u guys help me?! I'm asking because i have a SERIOUS sweet-tooth and i need to make induction-friendly sweet desserts otherwise i'll never do it!

I have heard so many wonderful things about the atkins, not just weight-loss wise, but taking control of what you eat, i need that, and i wanna make it work this time

    Thanks

    Jo

Jo this is a great site for recipes. I believe the owner/author is a member on ADBB...her name is Linda. Stick to foods on the Induction Accepatable Food List. Good Luck!http://www.genaw.com/lowcarb/index.html

Does anyone have any induction-friendly dessert recipes they wanna share?! Now that i am very determined to do a clean induction i have had to scrap most of my recipes!

      O. and what do all the intitals mean? Like WOE and OWL and things like that.

only one more question (for now) promise!

Am i allowed tinned plum tomatoes or tinned tomatoes in general?

ON that link above go to desserts and anything with an * is induction friendly. I have tried several, as well as your own ice cream. That is good too! TOO GOOD... lol

Wow, thanks Sandra94 thats helped alot!

The *ed recipes all look yummy!

But again...things like flavour extract and suger-free syrup keep popping up and they aren't on the acceptable foods list, although they make things taste yummy.

          What shall i do?!

Well I used them and I lost weight. So I guess do what you think is best. Don't overdo the desserts though, I did that one day with the ice cream.... IT was JUST SO GOOD and I gained a pound that week.

              Re: New and Confused!

Oh right, i might have to use the questionable ingredients because i cant stand eegs for breakfast! i'd rather have my dessert for breakfast and not have it afetr dinner. Becuase eggs make me wanna throw up. They are nice but far to heavy for the morning time!

Any thoughts on the canned tomatoes? Aceptable or not acceptable?

Goodnews! You can use sugar-free syrups, sugar-free gelatin, and any flavor extracts you want. And cocoa powder is treated as a SPICE, so you can have it, too! I make a lovely mocha with splenda, cream, cocoa powder, and coffee- hot or cold.

I, too, refuse to pull my sweet tooth, so I have something sweet every single day.

                    Hi JoJo

This is my second time around on atkins. I all so have a really sweet tooth the best thing to do is to stick with the induction foods for a couple of weeks it's hard i know. Once you get used to it, and get those bad carbs out of body you won't have a sweet tooth anymore i promise. When you get passed induction stage it will be you controling what you eat. The only time i fancy something sweet now is the TOM. If i can do it so can you good luck.

                      Re: New and Confused!

Kat2969, i am very undecided now whether to use your advice or give in to y sweet tooth and listen to evermind. After all sugar-free syrup, jelly, extract and cocoa can't do me any harm right? If they are sugar-free they should be fine?! BUT your right, they are not on the acceptable foods list (unless you count them as spices, which they kind of all are!) I'm very confused :S.

                        Re: New and Confused!

The best way of getting rid of cravings is to tough it out and you will no longer crave them. Substituting even 'legal' foods can keep the carb monster fed. There is much research about sugar free products giving your body the same response as full sugar. Splenda and Equal are sugar free, but not carb free and limited on Atkins. At least give going dessert-free a shot. You'll be surprised at how fast you will get over the cravings.

WOE = way of eating (it's not a diet)
OWL = ongoing weight loss (after induction)
WOL = way of living (it's not a diet)

                          Re: New and Confused!

Hi there, thought I would chime in. If I were you I would stay away from the " sugar free " things for now. The first two weeks of induction is the hardest and you shouldnt be eating anything thats not on that list. I know its hard but killing that sweet tooth is the only way to go. If you eat all those artificial sweetners your body/mind is just going to want more. I started Atkins over a year and a half ago and I lost around 50lbs, Since then I have been on and off and everytime I have failed its been because of the sugar free things. Induction is the time to kill the sweet tooth, not feed it. Try something fatty when youre having a craving, this helps me sometimes. Good luck!!
