According to the Atkins carb counter 3.5 ozs of white wine contains 0.8 carbs and whisky contains none. Why, then, can I not have a drink every now and then on induction as long as I include the carbs in my daily count? Do the calories in a glass of white wine store faster than the calories in an ounce of cheese? It seems to me that either there is a sub-text about alcohol being 'bad' or something else is going on other than the number of carbs consumed during induction. I understand that it is important to get the carbs from nutrient rich foods (vegies), but the occasional trade off for a social drink might be worth making for some people. What's the deal? What else is going on if a whisky with zero carbs is not allowed but broccoli with 3.9 carbs per half cup is allowed? Help me to make it make sense.

Our Bodies react differntly to alcohol then they do to food. Alcohol is allowed and enjoyed by many in OWL. When you consume alcohol it will be burned before carbs and it can stall some people, that is why it is left off until Owl Rung 5.

I know that there are some folks out there who will answer this question better/ differently than me, but here is my opinion:
I have found that I can have a rum/ diet 7up and it will not stall me at all. However, when i start adding wine into my diet, I always stall/ come to a screeching halt!
My thought is, it is better not to, but if you do want to add the alcohol into your plan, go for the zero carb.

rung 2 - dairy (some milk in coffee)
rung 3 - seeds, nuts (mostly sprinkled on salads)
rung 4 - berries, melon
rung 5 - wine -
rung 6 - beans, hummus
rung 7 - other fruits
rung 8 - carrots/ potatoes (nah, prolly not)
rung 9 - whole grains (fresh Dutch breads...)
Major Goal - 128 lbs/ healthy range
(on to pre-maintenance)

Hi,
Alcohol really slows my weight loss down and i have vodka and diet coke No carbs. The body will burn alcohol first before food. So that's me on the water from now on. Plus when you've have a few
you won't care what you eat beware.
