  • Cup size confusion!

Right when recipes say 1/2 a cup of something they mean a normal average mug sized cup yes?

Sorry to be really stupid. Also i am very young and have never really cooked before! Can you buy a mug/cup with the 1/2 cup and 3/4 cup thingys already marked on.

If not i'll probably just go and buy a clear mug and mark them on myself!

Right thanks for that. I have a measuring 'jug', but that seems huge! Ill get a smaller one!

One 'cup' is equal to 8 fluid ounces in USA (237 mls in UK/Europe etc) so your measuring jug would be fine to use, or even use a tablespoon to measure if you have one of those.
        1 cup = 8 fl oz = 16 tablespoons
        1/2 cup = 4 fl oz = 8 tablespoons
        1/4 cup = 2 fl oz = 4 tablespoons

            Re: Cup size confusion!

I actually use the Nutritional Spreadsheet that is provided on this site, that is under Atkins Low Carb Dieting, since it provides weights for many of the foods, and measuring with a cup gives different results. I put a glad ware on a scale, and then measure my food that way. That seems to work for me, anyone let me know if that is not the way to go.

              Hi, Lucy

I, too, use the Nutritional Spreadsheet provided in the FAQ forum. It has made my life so much easier. Here is the link if anyone is interested:

              http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...104#post640104

After you click into that link, you then need to click on NUTRITIONAL SPREADSHEET and it will take you to a great list that shows many foods, with their weights and nutrition facts. It even shows which rung the food is in. I have printed it out and use it all of the time. I purchased an inexpensive food scale from Walmart for about $4 and now weigh my veggies to determine my counts. It is sometimes so hard to tell exactly how much of an irregular shaped veggie it takes to make a cup. This takes all of the guesswork out of it.

The information that Elizellen provided is very useful... I didn't cook much before Atkins and don't have a lot of experience, so having these equivalents has really helped.
