I'm a few days away from getting my period plus I think I'm getting sick and I'm craving candy in the worst way. I'm also retaining water no matter how much water I drink. I'm usuallyway below the 20 net carbs so yesterday when one of those cravings hit I ate like 3 atkins bars... it helped. luckily I was not over in the carbs. My two questions are 1. When you are premenstral do you still retain fluid like you did before the diet, and 2. Is it that big of a deal when you eat less than half the carbs you are allowed during induction. Thanks for all the help!

Re: I'm feeling sick and getting ready to have my period.
Yes you will retain as normal - i genereally see a 6-7 pound gain just before TOM, it will go straight after usually with another pound or two on top!
i averaged on 15 carbs during induction, are you counting your eggs and cheese n creams carb counts?
if youre just eating lettuce as a veggie then you will automatically be very low in a carb count, theres no nutrients in lettuce hardly! so try and pick something like broccoli/spinach to push it up slightly...
STAY AWAY from the atkins bars, they will stall your weightloss, if you read the ingredients there are things on there that are not on the acceptable foods list, therefore NOT legal for induction!! i know it says they are, but they LIE, theyre just a money making scheme thats appeared since DR A died!HW 303Aug '04 SW-287 LW-232Restart - Apr 07 - SW 266 CW 225

thanks emma... I had the same discussion regarding the atkins bars with my grandma. I asked her how they can be only 2 net grams when the nutritional facts do not add up. She basically just said they made the diet... you have to trust them... I guess. I should stop them anyway. they are too expensve... what do you think about the shakes?31/F/5'7"

The shakes are the same, they cause certain people to stall. Don't those things give you tummy aches? I can't eat an atkins bar. Plus, my cravings aren't fooled by fake frankenfoods.
I get major cravings, too. I haven't checked if I gain weight or not.
I like your gramma's theory, lol.

Shari, it's important to try to get in all 20 carbs -- or at least as close as possible. Your body NEEDS some carbs -- and less than 10 is hardly anything. So, up those veggies -- and not just salad -- to increase those carbs from the ideal source.
And yes, TOM will make you retain more water... just keep drinking... it will level out after a few days. Take care.

Re: I'm feeling sick and getting ready to have my period.
I think everytime I eat out there are secret carbs, that I have trouble counting.
I stink at bringing lunch to work.
So I have lunch at whole foods.
Egg Salad, Tuna Fish , I know they have some carbs, from the filler they put in , I count them as carbs.
Some morings I get eggs and bacon, I know they have some carbs in their bacon, it simply takes too good.
Sunday I had no bone spareribs and I know there are some carbs in that.
I also drink Whey protein shakes that have 2.5g Carbs with 1g fiber per scoop.
So on my best days I know I am getting at least 20 carbs, but I still feel great and I appreciate this board. I feel my detoxing time is over and I am almost...happy with my progress. it is a weird feeling to actually have some control over my eating.
