  • Lingerine cravings and dealing with them

I've been finding this so easy until to-day. But after lunch to-day I thought that if I didn't have something sweet I would die. I wasn't hungry - just needed something sweet. Went for walk. Drank a couple of pints of water. Couldn't get rid of it.

So I made a mock danish for the first time. Took one bite and ...... YUCK!! I spat it out, have never tasted anything so disgusting, the feel of it in my mouth was sickening. I guess they are not for me - the dog loved it though.

Craving remained. So, I gave in and had one oz of frozen mixed berries (thawed) with a fl oz of cream. That did it. I was fine. Then the guilt hit.

On the positive side there was also two fresh doughnuts in the cupboard at the time - I resisted these, in fact they didn't really tempt me. It was fruity sweetness I wanted.

I know it could have been MUCH worse, but it scares me that these cravings can suddenly come in from the blue just when you think you are doing so well. Next time I might not have berries handy. How do you deal with them?

Good for you resisting those doughnuts!

Berries will be legal for you pretty soon, so you're right, it could have been worse.

I think the best way to curb a craving is to eat something high fat. What worked for me, was always jelly (jello) -which I make myself, with natural gelatin and Da Vinci syrup- and a nice big dollop of cream.

If you're out and about, make sure you always have something high fat handy... like a piece of cheese or a few olives. The less you give in to the "sweet" cravings the less they'll bother you in the future.

As Sally said, a highfat snack can do it for most folks. Another suggestion I have heard is to eat something 'sour' like a pickled gherkin (dill pickle).
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

for sweet cravings, i make a milk shake of a scoop of low carb flavored whey protein, ice , and water.
And some times for any cravings, I have been known to drive to my local fast food place, no ketchup and throw away the bun in the middle of the night.
          Good luck

Re: Lingerine cravings and dealing with them

I think it's a mistake to think that we will never have strong cravings. It's unrealistic. What we need to do is anticipate them and prepare.

A lot of women tend to have strong cravings for sweets at certain times of the month.

People in general will have cravings when they have not had enough fat during the last several hours.

Many, many people experience nearly overwhelming cravings when they've just consumed a bunch of carbs - legal carbs. I mean, a large salad for lunch can do some people in unless they've had a large serving of something fatty at the same time. This is particularly true for people who combine all of their allowed veggie carbs into one meal.

Some people get cravings when they are tired. Or thirsty.

            So what to do?

Well, first of all, anticipating them means that you can prevent some of them just by adjusting how you eat and drink. Eat more frequently, especially stuff high in fat. Don't group your carbs alltogether.

Secondly, we should always have a mental list of things we KNOW we like that can satisfy cravings. The first time around, I kept, at all times in the fridge, a bowl of sugar-free cherry jello mixed with a block of cream cheese. It had enough sweetness and fruitiness to curb the craving, and enough fat to satisfy me fully. But you can keep sugar-free jello in the fridge and bring it to work, you can make "clouds" or cheesecake pudding and freeze them in tiny containers to have, and you can make all kinds of flax goodies that are sweet and are not mock danish.

The idea of a shake is also good. Diet Rite cherry soda (or any other flavor) to which you add a dash of cream is yummy in the middle of the afternoon occasionally (not daily). You can add cocoa powder and flavored sugar-free DaVinci syrup to your coffee for a mocha any time of day.

You'll find that having small (and I mean tiny) servings of these things available to you will reduce the number of cravings you have and prevent you from longing for others and resenting the fact that you can't have them.

Re: Lingerine cravings and dealing with them

Thank you all SO much - preparation and expecting cravings is the key then. I was getting relaxed because I really hadn't had any until to-day.

Many, many people experience nearly overwhelming cravings when they've just consumed a bunch of carbs - legal carbs. I mean, a large salad for lunch can do some people in unless they've had a large serving of something fatty at the same time.
That is EXACTLY what I had just done!! I was too lazy to make a proper lunch so I just got some very lean cold chicken and had salad with it, the only fat was some mayonaise. It's fantastic to know that - thank you, I'll be extra careful about that in future.

The weird thing is though that I have never been one to crave sweet things in the past. I very, very rarely eat dessert and couldn't care less about it, even when eating out. But I could chomp though a whole loaf of fresh bread happily. I thought savory high carb foods like bread, crackers and so on would be my weak point, so this one side swiped me.

That said, I gave up a 2 litre a day Diet Coke habit at the same time as starting this, so I suppose that was my sweet sin.

Anyway - onwards. Thank you all for your wisdom!

Lingerine cravings? What the **** is lingerine? I meant Lingering.

Honestly, it's a fairly simple thing - even if it's not so simple in practice.

You don't trade what you want most (slim/healthy body) for what you want at the moment (cravings/sabotage). Make the decision and then stand fast.

Simple thing, not always so simple in practice, but that's what I tell myself.

I usually get a craving for something sweet right after lunch. I have a sugar-free Icebreakers Sours, that is enough for me.

does anyone feel that cravings are a sign that you are eating too many carbs and have to start looking for secret carbs, in sauces, in takeout foods laced with cornstarch, in "low carb" purchased items that actually have a lot of carbs?
