I've had problems previously with metformin and induction. The problem was extreem bg drops and major muscle pain from vitamin b and potassium depletion. With the metfomin I don't feel my normal low blood sugar symptoms(like hunger) until it is too late. I'm wondering if I should just start with 30 carbs (after fiber?) I'd appreciate any advice.

I think you should speak with your doctor.

Re: Metformin and induction ?
LOL he is so anti low carb it isn't even funny. We had a serious arguement about him wanting me to eat 300 carbs a day for 4 days before my 2 hour glucose tolerance test coming up in addition to the 70 grams of glucose you drink to begin the test.. I told him that was absolutely ridiculous and would not show how my body reacts from "what I normally eat" and the medication. I told him if thats the case I refuse to do it. Plus he advised the clinics shake weightloss program as the ideal solution wo weightloss. Ummm no way. In over 7 years I have not had a dr I agree with on the diet issue. Sorry for the rant.Originally posted by not2lateI think you should speak with your doctor.

Actually, he's correct about that. In Atkins Diabetes Revolution, it says to eat above 150 carbs a few days before a GTT. Otherwise, that sudden glucose load will make your body over-react and will give a diabetes picture, rather than reflect your true pancreatic function.Originally posted by TIME2SHINE4-08LOL he is so anti low carb it isn't even funny. Metformin lowers blood glucose right? So if you're getting hypoglycemic while on Metformin and on a controlled carb diet, you really ought to talk to your doctor about it. You might want to copy the information in this link: http://www.joslin.org/managing_your_diabetes_2854.asp and give it to your doctor. Controlled carbohydrate diets are more or less endorsed by the Joslin Diabetes Clinic in Boston.
Good luck to you.

Re: Metformin and induction ?
Yeah, you need to talk to a medical professional. You could seriously harm yourself if you don't have that medical advice.
I was actually afraid to tell one of my doctors about atkins and he was so supportive, I was amazed! He advised South Beach, only because it is less strict but didn't discourage me from doing atkins. You can find a doctor out there that will support you. And I think you have to make it known to them that you're very determined to do this and that you just need their medical advice.
However, you have to understand that if a doctor thinks it's dangerous/a health risk then they're not going to want to give you advice for liability reasons. You may need to "shop" around for a new physician.

Re: Metformin and induction ?
The met is also for pcos btw. I think I do need a new dr. Maybe a new clinic as they all push their shake program and more meds and had a virtual fit at 70 carbs even before meds. though my bloodwork was excellent! I can control my bg on very lc however without the met to help with the pcos my hair goes bald in the corners. It's kind of a vicious circle. I've never had the dr say anything except low carb does not work period and I need a minum of 140 a day.
A friend suggested a homopathic dr."I REFUSE TO BE DEFEATED"
