  • Downhill??

I was doing so well on the diet in the beginning. Exercised everyday and did everything I was supposed to. Fast forward to last week, I just started my master's program and between school, work and children; I barely find time to get sleep or any type of rest. Throughout my 2 weeks of induction, I lost a total of 10 pounds and that was the first week, the second week I didn't lose anything.

I also went to a wedding and ordered the filet mignon (hoping it would be safe). It had a little gravy on it, but i wiped it off and ate the vegetables. 48 hrs. later, the ketone sticks says I'm out of ketosis. Hoping someone can help me make it through this diet again.

    Re: Downhill??

Im just finishing day 5 of induction and have had a 14 pound loss. Im sure it will slow down as Im positive it must have been alot of water. The more I read about the success of OWL the more I question doing an extended induction. Alot of really positive results coming from the OWL phase.

From one mom going to school to another...take changes one day at a time. I'm only finishing up my BS in Teaching, so I can only empathize with you and the idea of school...Master's degree is a whole other ball of wax, I'm sure

Make your plans for food ahead of time, like on the weekend, so you're not caught off guard...that takes care of the food.

Make a point to wear your best running shoes (even if you walk in them) at all times during the day so you can get up and move when you need a break in between studying, work, and life.

Drink you water constantly...when your cups empty, fill it up again.

Get your rest. Your body knows when stress is induced and will fight back with retaining. Losing 10 pounds in 1 weeks is great! Your body goes through adjustments...hang in there and stay the course!

And most of all....remind yourself that Atkins is a way of eating for life. You're changing your life style, eating habits, and gaining a new perspective on life and exercise. There's no hurry to lose the weight, it's not a race. Hang in there! You can do it.

I am also a teacher and checking grades, essays and lesson plans is also another strain, but I do love teaching.

I'm not in the education field; however, I am a college student. I'm taking an 18hr load this semester and it's stressing me out.
I think Apple, gave you some really good advice. You have to rest at some point. You don't want to crash, like I did a few weeks ago.
At work keep one of those two gallon jugs under or on your desk if you can, that way there is always water available to you. I keep a 32oz bottle to drink from and one of those huge jugs of water. It helps me with my water intake.

Did you eat any veggies that you weren't supposed to eat? Were they bathed in a sauce or gravy? Did they taste sweet?
It sounds like you had a safe meal. Hopefully, someone else can help you answer that question. I've never used Ketostrips.

            Re: Downhill??

A lot of people lose only during the first week of induction, and some lose only in the second. And a few people lose in NEITHER!

The ketostix are for the birds, in my opinion. Stick to the acceptable foods list, eat plenty of fat, and you will be in ketosis.

As a busy mom and professional, my advice to you is to preplan your meals so that you just pull tupperware containers out of the fridge when you are packing lunches, get some form of exercise every day, and remind yourself frequently that this is a new way of eating, living, and relating to food and the world. Be patient, don't rely on the scale, and enjoy good health.
            Start date: 7/29/2007

            Scale: SW:235 CW:193
            GW:150

Tape Measure: I've lost 42.5 inches as of 3/15/2008

            Mini goals:
            215 - met 9/10/07
            205 - met 10/17/07
            195 - met 2/20/08
            180

            I survived a two-month stall!

Thanks Evermind for reminding us that its okay to eat fat. Im so used to hearing that its bad that I have trouble sometimes being comfortable with the butter and other fats Im eating. Makes me happy though, lol, cuz what isnt yummy covered in butter lol.

                Re: Downhill??

I also have trouble with the fat eating. Whenever I see something with fat I tend to throw it away or clean the meat. I guess it is just a habit. I'm trying to eat fat more. I am also trying to drink more water. I had one of my students to get me some water before class begin, so that I can teach and sip in between. Thanks for all the great advice.

                  Re: Downhill??

Maybe you can use added fat in the form of butter or oil to cook things in or use a dressing that is highfat if you dont like eating the fat on meat?
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
