Ketone strips

I am a 5 days in to the program and was wondering where you buy ketone strips? I live in Canada and am not sure if you need a prescription or do you just buy them at the drugstore? If you could let me know the name of them as well.

Do most people use them? Is it something you should check everyday?

When I did induction 3 years ago, I got mine at walmart. I kind of became obsessed with them so this time I letting the scales determine if Im doing a good job. So far, so good. I may decide to get them once I move into OWL though.

If you do them, just remember, it doesnt matter what shade of purple the stick turns, any purple means ketosis, which is a great thing.

You shouldn't need a prescription for them, and they will likely be in whatever drugstores you have up there. You may need to ask the pharmacist for them because they may be behind the counter. The brand I use is called "Ketostix" and the box is white and yellow. I think mine run about $10-12 US for a bottle of 50 (the bottle is packaged in a box).

Warning: They can be addictive! But they are also a great motivator - I can't think of too many things that are as satisfying as seeing the stick turn colors the first time.

You don't need to check every day, and many people don't use them at all. I like to use them once a day or so just because it's a visual confirmation that I haven't messed anything up too bad. (Like eating something that had hidden sugar in it for instance.)
