  • Help!!!!

Ok, so ive seen my mom loose 60 lbs and a friend who just had a baby loose 80 lbs. I really want to do this. I have tried it a dozen times and as soon as I feel that drained hangover feeling I run for a sugar dohnut! Another problem is my fiance tries to do it with me but ends up drinking a beer, having me make him pancakes and then I fail AGAIN! How can I make this work for myself all the while we still have to have all the goodies he likes in the house. I know a big part of it is what kind of snacks can you have during induction? I dont want to have to cook a snack but Im tired of cheese and beef jerky! Someone help me!!!!

      Re: Help!!!!

Now during induction can you have absolutly no sugar and no bread? I tried it last week and I thought a hot dog with cheese and mustard would be ok but I read the hot dog package and it had 3 carbs and 2 grams of sugar.... was that a no no?

        Re: Help!!!!

yep that would be a no, theres certain hot dogs you can have but not something you can eat regularly as the sodium is quite high

You need to buy the book... Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution 2002 tells you everything you need to know.

heres a link to the acceptable foods list, you can ONLY eat whats on this list NOTHING else.

                Re: Help!!!!

I can't clean out my kitchen either since the kid's would have a revolt over their lunches. That said, their lunches have always been super healthy because I am sneaky! For me it helps to keep that stuff out of my sight and when I am fixing something I can't have I remind myself why I "don't want" to eat any. Since I started doing that I haven't cheated at all.

Also, there was a great article on cnn (or maybe it was nytimes) about how our eating habits are based on what is easily acceptable because of natural biological urges. Scientists did some really interesting experiments, for one experiement they took a box of chocolates in an office environment and counted how many had been eaten over time. Then they moved the box closer to the cubes by only a few feet and the numbers eaten went way up. Keep your allowable snacks close by and the junk way in the back of the cupboard!

                  Re: Help!!!!

yea. im going to have to be strong and just stay away from the food he has to have. I know that he is to lazy to make his own breakfast lunch and dinner and maybe all the junk will just run out. I do the shopping and all the cooking so i do have some control over what he eats for the most part.

                    Re: Help!!!!

When I began Atkins three plus years ago, I sat with my family and told them what I was going to do and asked for their commitment to support me. After all, this isn't a temporary solution, it is a lifelong way of eating. Unless you want to battle in silence and frustrate yourself trying to avoid the sweets and the snacks, ask for your family's support so that they will know how important this is for you. My family still enjoys their carb rich foods and snacks, but I don't eat them nor will I if I'm not in a good place to have them around me. This is about you and no one else. You have to decide how important it is for you.

                      Hi there!

You'd mentioned feeling drained of energy...you could have been experiencing the "induction flu" which makes you feel tired and crappy. It goes away after induction though, so hang in there It's just the withdrawal from carbs as your body adjusts.

My husband is also not on Atkins...yep it can get pretty hard sometimes. There's no reason you have to eat the same thing your hubby eats/drinks- although it's tempting!

I claimed one of the fridge shelves as my own, for all my Atkins food to sit. I told my hubby if he puts any of his stuff in there I'll kick his butt (jokingly of course).

You might want to check out the recipes here, there are lots of things you can have during induction that are yummy and filling!
