  • Can I live on quiche?

I have made some great low carb quiche am hoping to make it a staple in my diet. I got the recipe off of linda's site and it says that there are 5 grams in each serving and it serves 6. I cut mine into 8 so I think that is just over 3 grams per serving. I just want to be reassured that if I eat this upto my 20 gram limit or as a large amount of it I won't be over doing anything. What do you think?

Live on quiche or make it a daily part of your overall plan? You'll never get enough veggies into a daily serving of quiche is my guess. I may be wrong but I make a lot of low carb quiche.

I make quiche muffins and have at least one or two a day as a snack or as a breakfast. They are one of my "go to" snacks.

Part of what we try to do on Atkins is find a way to eat that is both healthy and satisfying. I think the most successful Atkin-eers don't just follow what they think the plan is but they study it and embrace it. They seek variety and ways to stay on course and not fall off the wagon through sheer boredom.

Best wishes to you with Atkins.

As the others said, it shouldn't be your complete food source. That being said, if you don't get bored of it and really like it, or switch up the ingredients, there is no reaosn it couldn't be a daily part of your diet. It's not much different from me having a sausage and cheese omelet almost every morning!

Like the others I often include quiche in my menus - lately I have a slice for breakfast each day with some cherry tomatoes!

Make sure as Higgies said that you change the ingredients from time to time to get more variety into your body rather than using exactly the same recipe each time.

And dont forget to eat your 3 cups of veggies too - you can often add these to a quiche, I add cooked cauliflower or raw peppers and chives to mine.

If you are going to eat it for several meals in the day watch your cheese allowance as you are only allowed 3-4 ounces of cheese a day.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Point taken with the veggies. I couldn't live without them believe me! Salad is my meal of choice but I find the quiche is good warm or cold and you can switch it up. I love being able to bounce ideas off of the community and to see all angles. Here's the recipe for those of you requesting it. I added shrimp the last time I made it. I have noticed I need to bake this for closer to an hour.

              BROCCOLI QUICHE

10 ounces frozen chopped broccoli, cooked and well drained
              8 ounces cheddar cheese, shredded
2 ounces onion, chopped, about 1/3 cup
              6 eggs
              1 cup heavy cream
              1 teaspoon salt
              Dash pepper

Spray a large glass pie plate. Put the broccoli, onion and cheese in the bottom of the plate. Beat the eggs, then whisk in the cream, salt and pepper. Pour evenly over the cheese. Bake at 350º for 35-45 minutes, until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean. Let stand 10 minutes before cutting.

              Makes 6 servings
              Can be frozen

Michele - if you haven't been to Linda's recipe site, you need to go visit. I don't have the url handy, but if you google Linda and low carb recipe it should be right on top.
