  • Uh-Oh i fell off the wagon!!

From Monday to Thursday last week i did induction perfectly and all my bloating was gone, i felt so much better in just 4 DAYS! On friday tho i was really busy and didnt eat for about 10 hours (so bad!) so by the time i got home i was famished which means, unfortunately i fell off the wagon big time Everytime i eat well i feel so much beter and guilt free, but i ALWAYS slip up...and then all i do is beat myself up...

I admitt im pretty impatient and i would love to see results straight away and that is my down-fall. I used to have a great body but it seems through anorexia i have lost it. It is also a very emotional issue for me. I still havent recieved my book in the mail but fingers crossed it will be here in the next few days...

I find it hard not to have milk in my coffee and to not even chew sugar free gum on induction? Its these thoughts that keep me from staying on the straight and narrow i guess... someone help!

you have to sit down and figure out what is triggering you to fall off. Be honest with yourself. When you figure them out, you can develop coping mechanisms to deal with the triggers the next time they arise...and believe me, they will arise again.

So obviously you now know that you should eat frequently, and never let yourself go more than 3 hours without eating something high in fat.

Making mistakes is fine, so long as you learn from them and strive not to repeat them!

Ok well im starting again today so hopefully this time will be more successful! I kind of started feeling deprived (which is a wrong mindset to have) and just kind of scared that because ive had anorexia in the past and confused my body, that perhaps i wont get the same results as the next person? No reason to give up tho, i know...

aside from that i have a hurrendous sweet tooth!

There are several schools of thought about that sweet tooth issue.

Many people (but not Dr. Atkins so much!) advise that we "kill" it by avoiding all sweets until the craving is gone. Others believe that splenda-sweetened treats are ok in moderation.

I go with the latter. I have no desire to eliminate my sweet tooth. It ebbs and flows, usually with my hormones, but sometimes for no apparent reason. Having a dessert or something sweet has never, ever triggered other cravings for me, nor has it stalled me.

So what do I keep around? Well, I have crustless pumpkin pie for breakfast every day. On weekends, I make myself a hot or cold mocha using coffee, cocoa powder, cream, and splenda. This week, there's jello mixed with cream cheese in the fridge. And if I feel like having my spaghetti squash with splenda and butter drizzled on top, I will.

Another thing I occasionally make is dark chocolate "bark". I take a couple of tablespoons of coconut oil and heat it on the stove, mixing in a teaspoon of cocoa powder and some splenda. When it starts to bubble, I pour it on a plate and stick it in the freezer. It chills in minutes, and is yummy - a little will go a long way.

I don't eat sweets constantly. But it's there when I want it. And it's always mixed with something high in fat, so it fills me up in small quantities. If feeling deprived makes you go out and binge, try to have legal things around to satisfy that sweet tooth.

There is nothing passive about commitment and that applies to Atkins. This may not be popular but to be successful, one needs to examine if they want this or not and if they do, make a plan. With a plan, you wouldn't go ten hours without food, you'd have a "go to plan" for snacks throughout the day so you wouldn't crave at the end of the day and go off plan. "Slips" don't often "just happen" ... they are a result of failure to plan.

When you are alone in your head, you are in a bad neighborhood.

Cocoa powder is considered a spice, and is legal on Atkins.

Pumpkin pie? Well, get a large can of pumpkin (not pie mix). Add 1/4 cup of heavy cream, 1.5 teaspoons of pumpkin pie spice (some people may like more - taste it to see), 4 eggs, and splenda to taste (I use 3/4 cup, but some people like it sweeter. Taste it to see.) Bake at 350 degrees for about an hour.

I chill it, spoon it into individual tupperware containers, and bring it for my mid-morning snack at school.

There are great recipes in the recipe forum on this site. There are also places like Linda's Low Carb recipes (do a google search!) that have some amazing stuff!

Yes, you are supposed to be eating non-processed foods. What is processed about a can of pumpkin? It's just been cooked and canned - that's ok.
