  • Its a funny thing..

as confident as i am in doing this diet i still doubt it after i allready did it and lost 30 pounds doing it.

started again monday morning. havent even come close to cheating, nor have i had the urge at all. got on the scale this morning on the 4th day. lost a few pounds allready but im such an impatient person.

i forgot when the weight really starts coming off. anyone have any idea? is it the second week or the third week where you start seeing pretty dramatic results? i guess it varies for everyone.

for me the easy part is the eating. my willpower is unmatched, its the impatience that gets the better of me sometimes even though i preach patience to everyone else.

maybe i just need a pep talk

(wish i knew that trick ) but im sure if you continue to eat correctly and get your excercise in and Drink Your Water! you will start melting away on us too! Good Luck!

Glad your experience is good with the changes you are making. Are you measureing? Thats the best way to see the results. Its just like a clock, if you sit and watch it, it takes forever to move. But if you get active and have fun...you can't believe how time flies. (At least thats the visual I give myself).

You're doing great, no cravings and such a positive attitude....keep up the good work and it will happen.

yeah it worked in april and now im taking the same approach as i did back then. i think im just being impatient. im drinking tons of water. almost a gallon a day. its not good to over do it with the water though. i think a gallon is the right amount. there is such a thing as too much water.

its only the 4th day. i gotta calm down, lol.

im at 225 now and all i wann do is get to 200, maybe even hit the high 190's and then ill be where i wanna be. 5'11 195. man that sounds so good. i cant wait!

they always say inces before pounds on this diet. i guess i have to go with that theory. thanks for your comments

yeah the cravings arent coming at all. im not even worried about them. its just a non issue. im not measuring though, i didnt last time. im trying to do the exact same thing i did last time. its kinda a dull week with not much going on. when i get back to work monday ill be much more active with less time to think about all of this.

Um, a few pounds after 4 days IS weight really coming off!!

Bear in mind that you are looking to lose about 30 lbs - the average weight loss during induction is about 10% of the total you need to lose, so it looks like that in 4 days you've already hit that 'target' and if you keep it up you'll well exceed it in the 2 weeks.

When you hear of people dropping a large chunk of weight on induction it's likely that:

            • They had quite a lot of water retention prior to starting
            • They have a lot of weight to lose
            • They may be individuals who can tolerate carbs better
Also, you mention that you dropped this 30lbs before with Atkins. Which means you gained it bacK? Bet that didn't happen in a few weeks either!

It's amazing how we tend to say the same thing whether we're losing or gaining weight - "It's only a pound". When you are gaining, those pounds seem to add up awful fast, but they can seem very slow when you're losing. Every day the scale doesn't go up, it's going down!

From what I have read here and elsewhere it seems that a lot of people who lose, gain, then start again find that their weight loss is slower the second time around.

And even when you do lose the first lot of weight, it's almost certainly going to slow considerably as you head towards goal - in fact it should, a lot, if you are planning to keep it off permanently. You're gonna have to learn patience to get off the see-saw!

with all due respect you didnt read any of my posts. and nowhere did i mention or suggest i gained any of it back. in fact, im proud to say that when i did atkins in march i went from 250 down to 225 in about a months time and THEN stopped the diet once i saw it was harder and harder to lose more weight doing the atkins.

i proceeded to spend the following 6 months keeping the weight off. in 6 months time, i havent put one pound back on. i also havent lost either. ive maintained.

on monday, i decided to do the diet again in the hopes of losing another 25 pounds to get me down to 200.

i appreciate your kind words, but it helps when you actually READ what people write.

i apologize. i didnt realize i didnt mention in this thread that i never gained anything back. thats in another thread. so, i cant expect you to have known that since you probably havent read any other thread i posted in.

                my bad!

                  My most sincere apologies

Though if you read back you'll see you didn't say you'd kept it off - but nor do you say you gained it back, so I was wrong to jump to that conclusion and I am sorry it upset you so much.

But I stand over most of what I said. You're nearer goal this time, it's going to be different, almost certainly slower, almost certainly harder. It's not a switch you can turn on and off and expect the same result each time. And you are still right on track at your current rate of loss.

Even if you dont actually use a tape to see your measurements do try on tight clothes from time to time to get an idea of how your body shape is changing. You might get a nice surprise.

i know patience stinks , i always dream star trek could cure obesity and they would come back in time and fix me up. No luck , I have not seen spock yet.
But since it took 38 years to get me to 335, I think its going to take awhile to get back to 199.
Good Luck and I hate waiting too!

When you have a big drop in induction varies, person to person.

This time around, I've graphed my weight loss on Fitday.com, and discovered a very interesting pattern that really helps me with that patience issue.

Turns out that I will have 8-10 days of losing, then 9-10 days of "hovering", not losing, and sometimes actually being above my lowest weight for several days. Then I start losing again.

Now that I know what to expect, I'm not as worried and not as "antsy". Since I know that I don't cheat, and I record my food on fitday, I know I'm not actually gaining anything and that nothing is hindering my natural progress.

Tape Measure: I've lost 42.5 inches as of 3/15/2008

                          Mini goals:

                          180

I think it varies widely and probably depends a lot on how much you have to lose. The last time I did Atkins, I lost 10 pounds during the 14 day induction, nothing in week 3 and 5 pounds in week 4 for a total of 15 pounds in the first month. After that I lost a pretty steady 2.5 pounds a week for 4 months or so, then it slowed down to a couple pounds a month.

                              A quick update.

so, im almost finished with day 6 of induction. when i weigh in every morning its a consistent 2-4 pound loss since the first day. to be honest, i want it to be 15 but thats ludicrous. im not losing patience cause i remember this diet working, but in my mind it just "feels" like its not working and thats discouraging. so, someone PLEASE remind me that it will work!!!!
i havent even come close to cheating at all. had a HUGE chocolate urge today but my mind took over quickly. i know it sounds crazy, but i convince myself that if i do cheat just once, i wasted the entire week doing what ive done. its incentive i guess.

im hoping that the week to come i start seeing more weight loss and results.
im drinking my gallon of water daily
                              im exercising (well, walking)
eating the allowed foods (sometimes over-do it but thats ok, right?)
example : ill maybe make 2 burgers on the grill, and idf im not full make two more.
eating 2 huge bowls of lettuce a day
                              sugar free jello
no caffeine at all, maybe one or two coffee's all week with half and half

i know that when i did it back in marh i lost 25 pounds in a little over a month which brought me down to 225.

all summer i maintained the 225 and now im shooting to get down to 200. i still have weight in the belly area (alot) and my face too which went from round to oval. but believe me there is still ALOT of weight to lose. my point being that some will say i dont have as much to lose but TRUST me, i do.

anyone who can offer some encouraging words would be great!

                              stay positive everyone!
