  • A basic question

I have tried Atkins in the past but always blew it on the first weekend. This time I have the resolve to keep it going as long as it takes to loose the 60 pounds.

I have always had the following question: I have read Dr. Atkins book. The two cups of salad and 1 cup of other veg's seems like a lot fewer than 20 grams of carbs. For example, 1cup of butterhead lettuce is .7 net carbs (two cups is 1.4). 1 cup of red peppers is 6.6 net carbs. If I ate this as my two cups of salad and 1 cup of other veg I would be at 8 grams of carb. I'm confused!!!!

Yep, most people end up with between 10 and 15 grams of carbs. The veggies don't account for a lot. The rest comes from cheese, flax seed, heavy cream, stuff like that.

sauces , graves, toppings, sweetners, diet gum, all sneak in carbs some place.
a lot of restaurants use corn starch as a thickener.
      dressings too.
      Good luck

You can increase your vegetable carbs by not choosing lettuce which is super-low in carbs. There are many other more nutritious vegetables on the 'salad list' than lettuce which is just chewy water!!
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!
