  • 6 little meals or 2 big ones?

I have had an inner battle about how many times to eat daily. I have tried to do the snacking that has you eating small amounts many times a day and I find that I stay hungry and sometimes eat more than I should. All though I know I am supposed to eat less, more freequently I seem to do better if I have 2 larger meals during the day. Usually I will have a small bite to eat for breakfast and a good size meal late morning or early afternoon (between 11 and 1 o'clock) and then in the evening (5 or 6 o'clockish) I will have another decent size meal and I find I stay satisfied all day and lose weight. When I do several small meals I don't seem to lose as fast. I am also not preoccupied with what I am going to eat all day. What do you think? Do you do better with larger meals or small ones? What is your school of thought?

The rules state that we go no more than 6 waking hours without eating. And I have to admit, there is A LOT of wisdom in Dr. A's recommendation. On occasion I've gone more than 6 waking hours without eating because I'm not hungry and forget to eat. By the time I eat something, I'm ravenous and I tend to overeat---which isn't a good thing to do.

i would say eat when you're hungry. i mean, i know there are certain rules but as long as their are no carbs in it i dont see any harm.

the first 3 days of induction are by far the hardest as far as hunger is concerned. i ate like a maniac those first three days (both times ive done this diet). eventually your body just becomes used to it and trust me, you wont be as hungry.

if you do need to snack to just "feel" like youre eating may i suggest

celery with a little cream cheese
      drink 32 oz of water
      make a salad.

it doesnt have to be 40 chicken wings.

yesterday i had breakfast at 6 am and then my brother called me up to go to his apartment to watch the games all day. before i knew it 4 pm came and i hadnt eaten and my stomach starting howling. i knew i was hunrgy. i just waited til i got home and made dinner. i was starving but didnt over do it.

my point is i think you should eat throughout the day. in any diet, i think thats best.

I really feel strongly that there are some people who just don't need breakfast. That whole study about the correlation between obesity and skipping breakfast gives a very flawed impression. It is a correlation study (meaning that the two are related) not a causal study. There might be other reasons that obesity and skipping breakfast are related. Perhaps more obese people skip breakfast in a desperate attempt to loose weight. Maybe obese people eat more the night before thus not being hungry in the morning. In other words, skipping breakfast might be a cause of obesity, not the other way around.

I have been through the ringer following conventional nutritional advice. Please have the faith in yourself to know when you feel best!

Finally, Dr. Atkins says you shouldn't go more than 6 hours without eating. You can adhere to this without eating more than two big meals a day!

It sounds like you are doing great! Like I said, have faith in yourself!!!!!!!

Although I also think it would be best not to go more than 6 hours without eating, you have to go with what works best for you. If you find that with those two meals you are eating too much, begin to have snacks in between.

There are some days I'm not hungry and forget to eat and then there are days where I'm eating every three hours. Of course I'm still on induction but I'm trusting my body to help me out also. It does help that ketosis has struck!

What do your typical two meals look like?
How much water do you get in each day?
