  • Calories??? Why am I scared??

Ok, I started logging my foods into Spark People (similar to FitDay), and I know what everyone is going to say....calorie don't matter....however, mine seem to be a bit high. I had 2700 calories on Monday....and 2200 calories yesterday. I have looked at other peoples menus on the boards and mine looks pretty close to theirs. Those of you who have lost weight already on Atkins....are your calories this high and is it ok? Please help!!

I am also counting carbs....and was putting my foods into Spark in order to verify that I was in line with the carbs...however, I was still a little surprised that I had eaten that many calories. As long as I am still losing, then it is fine, but I just thought that number would be lower.

My BMR is 1635.2. So, am I eating too much? Or do I just keep counting just the carbs and don't worry about the Calories?

Re: Calories??? Why am I scared??

Honestly, in the beginning, you don't have to worry about calories. Once ketosis kicks in, your appetite will naturally suppress and you may find yourself worrying about the OPPOSITE problem--not ENOUGH calories LOL

Be very careful about how you FEEL when you eat. If you are hungry, then you need to EAT! Just count the carbs. If you are not hungry, then don't eat (unless it's been 6 hours since you last ate). When you're in the middle of eating is when you have to pay attention. Learn to STOP when you are satisfied.

This really will work itself out. I know when I was inducting, I ate a LOT of food. Calorie DENSE food. By the end of the 2 weeks, my appetite got suppressed and I was on here whining because I didn't want to EAT any more food. Ugh!

Even in maintenance, I eat a lot of food. I eat twice the amount of food at dinner than my HUSBAND eats. But, I exercise a LOT too.

Bottom line: don't worry about the calories for right now. Some day in maintenance, you might have to pay closer attention to it, but not during induction. Just learn to listen to your body.

I didn't have to watch calories until I was about halfway to goal. From what I have read this is not unusual if you don't have too much more to lose. The closer you get, the more you have to watch your calories to maintain weightloss.

As long as you are still losing, keep up what you are doing. Only when things slow down do you need to really begin scrutinizing the little details.

Re: Calories??? Why am I scared??

I agree with the others. In the begenning don't worry about yoru calories...
I didn't have to start watching mine until after I lost about 75 lbs. Now I can maintain by just watching my carbs but I only lose when I don't go over about 1500 a day.
It seems like some are lucky though and don't have to worry about calories at all.
Of course if you exercise you can eat more...
