  • what am I doing wrong?

Hi everyone! I feel kind of lost... I've been on Induction for a week and a half and am doing everything I am suppose to... Eating the right things, taking the vitamins, trying to drink enought water, no alcohol and no sweteners. I'm in ketosis so i should be loosing weight... But i'm not! I've lost 1-2 pounds. I hear about all these people who have lost so much weight during induction and i feel so disappointed... I don't understand what is wrong with me! The only two things I can think of are that i am on the pill and that I have hyperinsulinism (but I thought that that would make the Atkins diet even better for me!)... Anyway I think I really need some help and mainly support! Thanks alot!

you are probably doing nothing wrong as long as you follow the rules by the letter.
Not everybody losed 10 or 20 pounds during induction, in fact most people don't.
How much you lose in the beginning also depends on how much you have to lose in total...if thats only 20 or 30 pounds, there is no way you will see a 20 pound loss in the first 2 weeks...that would be just nuts.
Get used to the idea that there is no standard amount of weight you can lose in a certain amount of time.
You might also be a slow loser or you haven't had any waterweight to lose if you were on a diet before starting atkins (this was the case for me), so obviously you lose less.
Just keep going...at least you ARE losing!
Date to reach goal: I don't care, as long as it happens :P

Generally speaking, you can expect to lose between 5-10% of the total amount you need to lose during induction. Less than that would be an indication of metabolic resistance. More than that is a gift.

Of course that's assuming your menu is clean as can be.

      Exercising?
A couple days worth of detailed menus would help us see if you need to tweak.

Also- a 1-2lb loss IS a loss. You can't lose some weight and then say ya didn't lose any weight! Aside from that, induction is a 14 day process - not a 6 or 7 day one. Did you take your measurements as well?

owa_b I am sorry if you are discouraged , but remember to take your measurements cause sizes really change quickly. Are you exercising ? Are you getting your veggies?
Don't be discouraged, atkins is the only diet that actually reduces my hunger.

Hi Owa b!! Brook is right -she gave you good information. If you're doing everything by the book and exercising...then you are doing it right. Post your menu in the 'review my menu' forum, take your measurements (as many people lose inches before pounds) and relax. This isn'at a race...don't compare yourself to anyone else. Your body will lose at its own speed. Keep us posted on your progress...one thing I can tell you for sure is: If you hang in there -- you'll succeed.

Hang in there and keep on track! You are losing and like everyone says there could be many reasons for what you think is a slow start .......... Just think about it this way .......... 2 lbs a week is 8 lbs a month 80 lbs in 10 months ......... it adds up! You didn't gain it all overnight and you won't lose it that way either! I think a lot of people come into the Atkins "diet" thinking quick weight loss (I did) and thats not always the case ........ the biggest thing you need to remember is that it's a do-able way to lose the weight and not suffer so much ........ and it's an entire lifestyle change not just a "diet".

Hang in there and keep on keeping on!!!!!!

Re: what am I doing wrong?

Thanks alot you guys! I really do feel better!! I followed your advice and mesured my waist... and i've lost some inches! But how come you can loose some inches and not that much weight? It can't be because of sport cause i don't do too much of that... Anyway I'm happy about that!
I was wondering what you thought of my typical day's menu:
7.30 a.m: 1 fried egg and 3 pieces of bacon
12.30: a piece of steak with some veggies and a butter sauce
7.30p.m: salade with bacon, a boiled egg, cheese, et olives
                  snack: cheese (not too much)
