  • I am really discouraged

Hi everyone. Tomarrow is day 14 for me. I am really disappointed. I lost 5 lbs the first week and none the second. I feel great, I don't get sick when I eat anymore like I did before. I have more energy. I sleep better. My allergies are a little better too. I notice the most weight loss in my mid section which is great because I just had a baby. I am 5'9 and weight 173.5 to start and am currently 168.5. My goal is 140 or 145 which was my pre baby weight. I have been able to lose more before without atkins than with. I don't mind the way of eating or anything I actually love it. But I am just discouraged right now. I have had my menu reviewed and I am within my proper carb consumption. I dunno...anyone else go through this? I have always gotten sick after eating since I was a kid. I always got tired and didn't have any energy...and for the first time in my life I don't feel that way. AND for the first time in my life I am not left constantly feeling like I am starving and need to eat right after a meal. Any response would be great. When my husband gets home today I want to take before and after pictures to see. But I just don't know. Any enouragement would be great.

    Re: I am really discouraged

Your goal is to lose approximately 35lbs. You've lost 5lbs in the first two weeks. That is 14% of your goal loss in in a measley two weeks!! During induction you can reasonably expect to lose between 5-10% of the weight you need to lose, and you blew that right out of the water. What's to be discouraged about?!!

If you had put on 5lbs in two weeks, you'd have . Be THAT that you removed 5lbs in the same period of time!!

Your weight loss rate is fine- it's your perspective that needs a bit of a

    Well done and continued success!

Don't fret the pause in weight loss... your direction is great... your loss so far terrific. Sometimes it takes the body a little while to adjust to the fact that you're serious about losing, so it hangs on to the weight... particularly after the first losses. It's so common that here we have a name for it: PISS (!!) Post Induction Stall Syndrome. You'll probably find that pretty soon the weight loss will start up again.

Are you measureing? You could also be losing inches rather than lbs. This does happen, and again your body should catch up soon. If your pause is due to exercise, hence muscle gain (which volume for volume weighs heavier than fat) this is a good thing too. The more muscle you have, the harder the body has to work to maintain it. Muscle really increases your metabolism... and takes up less space than fat!

So, see... there are lots of factors (and I haven't even mentioned TOM, salty foods,,, or other things). If after a while you still aren't losing, try posting a couple of menus to the Review my Menu forum. There are lots of experts who'll tweak anything that needs tweaking to your menu, if necessary.

Hang in there... you'll be fine.

I agree with Sally...measuring is a great way to stay motivated and SEE the actual changes in your body. Scales record water gain, female fluctuations and don't give as accurate account of your success.

You are doing great. Keep the positive vibes flowing, don't become fixated on the number on the scales. If you keep working on making this a life-style change, you'll find that you are improving your health, gaining control of your way of eating and losing inches.

Keep posting and let us share in your success!!

Sid, I think your doing fine. I would suggest mabye adding a little more veggies. I think your menu looks good though. Is your tea decaf? because caffeine can stall weight loss. Are you working out? that is a requirement on this diet. I have the ketosis strips. I found them at walmart where they sell diabetic supplies. I was in induction after 3 days which is about average. Usually its after 4 days. I had a headache and felt a little off for a few days. Then all of a sudden it all changed. I got more energy and felt great. When you are in you will know I love this diet. Thats why I posted for encouragement from those who have been at the point you and I are at. Oh and make sure to drink lots of water too. I love this bulletin board! Thank you guys for responding I feel alot better.

                  Re: I am really discouraged

You are probly in ketosis then I felt like that right before my body kicked into fat buring mode. Now unfortunately it hasn't budged since lol buttttttt nonetheless it did and I feel better than ever. Wait until you get your kick of energy! its great. I wake up all night long with my two month old son and I still manage to feel energized all day! (BEFORE ANYONE START THE LECTURE: no I am not nursing (unfortunately) and I was cleared to diet by my doctor )

Hmm I don't know that answer I know Dr. Atkins says NO MORE than 20 g of carbs a day. But I don't think if you go over that you have to start induction all over again Just try and stay under or at 20. By no I am used to how much carbs are in my favorite foods. It gets easier Thanks, I hope you do too. Did you measure before hand? I didn't until yesterday but my clothes are a little looser :/

                            Re: I am really discouraged

I checked today and I am down a lb and a half. So on induction I have lost 6.5. I have been eating more veggies that are fiberous and a little more fat and more water and it helped
Spinach wraps? I believe they have carbs and are made with carbs. Make sure to read the labels. I do believe they are NOT allowed on induction. Someone can correct me if I am wrong though. It really is best to just leave those things out during induction.

Might I suggest that you only weigh monthly or bi-monthly? This way you do not become discouraged so easily. This diet works great and It will for you too. You will be fine!
