Hi sid I started a thread for you so you can get responses to your post.

First off, during induction you can expect to lose 5-10% of the weight you need to lose. For you, the top end of that would reasonably be 2.5lbs. Less than that is an indication of metabolic resistance. More than that is a gift.

Now, it's also important to note that induction is a 14 day process - not a 6 day one. Before you get all - get through the first 14 days. Eat clean. Drink tons and tons of water - and just when you think you've drank enough water to - drink more. Remember to get your or time in. Exercise is non-negotiable, and with just 25lbs to lose, it's going to be essential to your success.

    Breakfast -
    a cup of tea
    2 boiled eggs
Not bad. Not great. A couple of boiled eggs on the run are a good choice. Ideally, you'd have included a few veggies in there too, i.e. scrambled eggs w/ mushrooms, tomato, onion and a bit of cheese. You want to spread your carb intake through out your day. This avoids blood sugar spikes and helps you keep variety in your menus

    lunch
ceasar salad with lettuce cheese and chicken (10 carb)
    dressing (2 carb)
    diet ice tea (2 carb)
Yikes! What was in that salad that equaled 10 grams of carb??! Romaine with some tomato or olives or something shouldn't have added up to 10 grams unless you ate a mountain of it! Chicken doesn't have carbs. The dressing at 2 carbs is just fine. The tea?? Welllll.....if it's caffeine free and aspartame free, I'll give you a free pass on it. . If not... . Refer back to the water comment earlier.

    dinner

    2 pices of roasted chicken
1 celery stick wit cour cream
    cup of tea
You need more veggies here. You're spending about 20% of your carb allottment per day on tea. It's not how you're supposed to be spending your carbs. You don't mention how much sour cream you're eating, but it should be no more than 1oz a day.

Your percentages should be coming in around 65%fat/30%protein/5% carb. During induction I'm more successful at 70%/25%/5% . If you don't have a Fitday account, get one.

Be sure to take your measurements too. Scales lie (read this : Why The Scale Lies ). The tape measure won't.

is this right? Also is there another way to know if ur in ketosis already without the strips. i have been unable to find the strips. will try another pahrm tom. is there ne sign??? im so frautrated thankssss for all the support
Honestly? I think the strips are garbage. If you pay attention to your body it'll tell you all you need to know.

    Metallic taste in your mouth?
    More thirsty than usual?
    Reduced appetite?
Stronger smelling urine and sweat? (gross, I know, but Atkineers get excited over this kind of thing. LOL)
    Needing less sleep?
    Increased energy?

All of these things are signs of ketosis. You don't need the strips to tell you that.

However, if you do get the strips, know that it doesn't matter what color the strips turn- so long as they turn. It doesn't matter if they register a few to moderate to deep ketosis, so long as they register. It's sort of like being pregnant. You either are or you aren't. For some people it's a great motivator to see those strips turning. Me? I believe it to be a waste, but do what works for you!!

Hang in there and if you have questions...ask! It's what we're here for!

    Welcome to
    ~Brook

Sid, I'm not familiar with spinach wraps, but if they're not a giant spinach leaf you wrap your food in, then it's not likely to be induction legal.

          Do you have a link?

              Re: sid234 - C'mon in here! (sid needs menu advice/support! )

Nope sid. I completed re-induction about 5 weeks ago. I'm in OWL - and sticking to rungs 1,2,3,&4. I have no need to be drinking (yet) and I'll add the other rungs back when it's time for maintenance. I've been an Atkineer for 5 1/2 years now, so I'm well aware of what works for me (and what doesn't for that matter!).

I started in May 2002 and by June of 04 I called goal. I removed 68 inches and over 90lbs of fat (net loss of 82lbs). I went from a size 22 to a size 6/8.

By Sept of '05 I'd regained 20lbs. I removed that and called goal again Dec '05.

I maintained it for quite a while, and by Sept of this year I regained 19lbs. I'm down 10 of that again, so about 9lbs to go until I'm back at goal.

I've learned a thing or two about what I can and can't do. While removing the weight, I'm much better served sticking to the first 4 rungs. I'm happy with them, don't feel deprived and it gets me back down at a reasonable and responsible pace.

And I've actually been plateau'd again for about 3 1/2 weeks now- but hanging in there.

So the short answer to your question is - No. I'm not on induction. LOL

                  Nope. Milk isn't allowed.

Have you read DANDR? If you have, dig into Chapter 11 hardcore. If you haven't - get it and read it cover to cover and then read it again. I'd also suggest printing off a copy of the wallet sized induction food list and carry it with you. You can find that here: http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...ead.php?t=3286

Sid, I sent this back to you via PM, but being you posted the question here I thought perhaps someone else might be interested in the answer too, so I'm posting what I wrote to you here.

You sure can gain weight while in ketosis. Ketosis just means that you're burning fat for energy- and your body will do that in the absence of carbohydrates. This is a good thing when you're eating to satiation instead of still you're stuffed. Ketosis, as you've learned, is a natural appetite suppressant. but if you're over eating, you're going to gain weight.

Ketosis isn't a free pass. If you burn 2000 calories a day but take in 3000 calories, it's going to store as fat. Ketosis is an inefficient process- meaning it takes more energy for the body to convert fat for energy than it does to convert carbs to energy. That's the metabolic advantage people talk about- and it's true. Most people find they can eat 200-400 calories a day more while in ketosis than they can if they're not and still lose weight- but that's going to vary hugely with your activity level as well.

Sounds like you're on the right track, sid! Are you keeping a really close eye on and writing down everything you're eating? If you're not - you should be.

Journaling like that is SO important- and for more than just tracking what you're eating. It's important because it will force you to be honest about what you're really putting into your body. Most people are truly shocked when they get honest and dig in and do it. It's also important because it will show you patterns in your eating and behavior. I have FitdayPC (SO worth the money!!)- and in that it allows me to track the following:

                          What I ate.
                          How much I ate.
What meal of the day it was.
                          Why I ate.
                          Who I ate with.
                          Where I ate.
                          My body measurments.
                          My weight.
                          My moods.
                          My exercise.
                          A diary section.

When I'm really dilligent about filling in that info the patterns in my behavior jump right off the freakin' screen at me.

"Oh look! I tend to eat about 500 calories a day more when I'm pissed off than I do when I'm happy." know what I mean?

But you can do that with any old journal and I'd really recommend it.

I hope that helps and answers your questions!
