  • Day one and excited..

I am off to make some eggs for breakfast. I am so excited to start this. I was just wondering if your body responds to not having so many carbs. I can understand your mind wanted them but does your body? I do not know if that makes sense.

I am off to buy the book so I can do this right.

    Hi Nichola,

Welcome to the board. You are going to do fine. Some folks experience what they call induction flu. which is your body reacting to not having sugar and carbs. From what I understand you get kind of headachy and a little weak. It usually lasts 3 or 4 days and then you will feel great. I never experienced any of that (induction flu or feeling great) but lots do. If you have any questions just come here and ask. Lots of knowledgable folks here.

Nichola...Your enthusiasm in contagious. I'm very excited for you, cause with your knowledge once you read the book and the friendships here, I know you'll make goal and be a great motivator to others.

In answer to your question, yes. Your body will respond by reverting burning carbohydrates and instead it will start burning stored fat for energy. Keep your mind filled with positive thoughts, which will help you in forming positive actions that will boost your metabolism and make it burn more fat. (Positive actions: exercise in any form. Way of Eating (eat from the induction list), drinking lots of water, taking supplements to account for any vitamins you need to keep your body working at maximum capacity, and keeping a good attitude about the changes you are making.) Re: Day one and excited..

I started Monday, 10/22 so I am starting day 5. I feel really good during the day but by the evening I am so tired, sleepy and grouchy I am mean to my family. I personally think it is my lack of caffeine which I am used to. When I am not on my diet I drink about a 2 liter diet soda during the time I am awake. I have tried to cut my caffeinenated soda down to 2 cans per day. Very, very tough for me. I know that eventually I will feel better but am a little edgy right now. I have however, lost 5 pounds already and that is without exercise. It has turned cold here in the South and I am trying to get accustomed to that before I start walking which I plan to do this weekend. I must confess that at night when I start feeling so moody I think if I haven't lost any weight when I weigh in the morning then I am going to eat what I want. But guess what? So far I have lost every morning. Just hang in there. Make sure you only eat what is o.k. for induction and you will be successful. Rhett.

Rhett...I also live in cold weather climate and was worried about walking during the winter. I started walking in place, doing floor exercises and using an exercise ball when I first began. On nice days, I walked outside (which I preferred) but made a vow not to let the weather stop me from upping my metabolism each day. Also exericise will put you in a better mood. You won't be so frustrated and grouchy to others. Have some inspirational and motivational phrases written down and read them to keep your attitude in a positive light. These are small steps that become habits over a few days and you'll feel much better about yourself and your WOE. (way of eating) Best wishes!!
