Good for you...starting tomorrow. Yes, It's the induction flu? I get headaches and a stuffy nose, but only for the first couple of days. Then it's smooth sailing . Good Luck!

induction flu is a bad thing , I know.
Just know its temporary, and it is exactly like detoxing off a drug, except when you detox, sometimes they wean you off slowly.
With carbs , you have to stop, when you do , it stinks , but it is temporary.
My entire life I ate multiple bagels for breakfast. Now the office still gets free bagels every friday and I pass on them, (I am also addicted to free things, but that is another board haha).

I never thought in a million years I could pass up a bagel.
      Now I can.
I have not had a piece of bread, rice, potato, or pasta since Sept 2nd. that is the longest I ever went in my life. I built up momentum that I don't want to give up now.

You can do it. Induction Flu is temporary. Once you are through it, your confidence, strength, energy, will zoom. Zoom. If I can do it. Anyone can. (I used to eat 8 slices of pizza every saturday).

I so understand. To me sugar is a drug...just a little and I want more and more (which I am sure that is how addicts feel). The one thing I've found that truly helps is L-Glutamine. It truly helps when I start getting the headaches (like people who are going through withdrawal from caffeine). Dr. Atkins recommends it also in his book for those who crave sugar (not sure which page - someone help!!). You might want to try it just to see if it helps. Best of luck and health to you.

I have 2 questions for you about the first time you did Atkins and lost 45 pounds...

          1. Did you go through the Atkins phases---Induction, On-Going Weight Loss, Pre-Maintenance and Maintenance---or did you lose it all on Induction Phase or early OWL phase?

          2. Did you try to break your sugar addiction, or did you feed it with low carb, sugar-free substitutes?

            Re: Sugar Addict?

Well The First Time I Did It I Lost 45 Lbs. In 5 1/2 Weeks Yes, 5 1/2 Weeks. I Stayed On Induction To The T. I Absolutly Was A A Fanatic About Doing It Right And Clean.

It Took About 3 Weeks Before I Could Honestly Say I Felt Good.

I Think In All Reality the initial two weeks is A Killer For Me I Am So Sick. It Is Exactly Like Having The Flu. I Try To Push The Water And A Couple Of Times Threw It Up. Then After The First Week I Could Drink How I Should.

I Guess Everybody is Different And For Me It May Just Take A Little Longer To Feel Good. I See A Lot Of People Say Usually After 3 Days They Feel Great But, That Is Just Not The Case For Me.

But, After That 3 Weeks It Was The Best I Have Ever Felt In My Life. I Got Pregnant With My Daughter Who Is 2 Now And Put It All Back On.

We Have 2 Kids And Are Done So Now I Feel Like I Need To Consentrate On Myself Which I Think Is Hard For Women Because We Take Care Of Everyone And Everything Before Ourselves And In The Long Run It Hurts Us.

I Need To Put Myself And Taking Care Of Myself At the Top Of The List So I Can Still Be Here Later On To Help My Kids And Other In Need.

            Thanks Again Sarah

              Re: Sugar Addict?

When I began Atkins in 2004, I had never seen a carb I didn't like! Nearly four years later, I've managed to break and maintain my divorce from all things sugary, starchy or empty carbs. I keep remembering how far I have come ... and some days I say "The Serenity Prayer" a dozen of more times to avoid diving into an old familar treat ... other than that ... Planning is my watchword. I'm not going to go back ... I'm not, I'm not, I'm not!!!!

When you are alone in your head, you are in a bad neighborhood.

Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

                  Re: Sugar Addict?

Sugar is definitely a drug to me. I can have a small potato or a roll with dinner, etc. I can also NOT have those and not think twice about it. However, I am not capapble of having 1/2 cup of icecream or 1 square of chocolate.....let the binge begin! After the first few days, there are two things that still bug me....1) sandwiches are easy.....I like having an all-in-one package meal 2) carbs are good for stretching the budget(like macaroni stretches out a pound of burger )

290 lbs. on 11/02/07 Goal: 145 lbs. or size 14 whichever comes first!

                    Re: Sugar Addict?

carbs are cheap i know. you can buy a pound of rice for under a dollar.
I can eat a pound of rice, and afterwards I am still hungry.
but you can buy a dozen eggs and a half a pound of sausage for about $4.
I can be hungry and eat 3 eggs and a little sliver of sausage and I am full for hours.
I still have 9 eggs and 90% of sausage left.
So look long term in this diet. In the long run, atkins saves me money.

                      Re: Sugar Addict?

You might want to consider doing Atkins the correct way--by going through all the phases--- this time around. EAch phase has a specific purpose. Induction is there only to get our bodies in the "fat burning" mode, ie: lipolysis/ketogenesis. On-Going Weight Loss phase is where we learn what our bodies can and cannot tolerate while we continue to lose weight. Pre-Maintenance gets us ready for Maintaining that goal weight. If you read the "Second Time Around" forum, you'll see that many people there never went through Atkins properly.
