  • Update:5 days in!

    Hey everyone!

I am now five days into induction! Everything is going amazing. I'm not craving anything, except maybe some ice cream. But I keep telling myself that after the two weeks, I will treat myself to some low-carb ice cream. The variety of food I have been making is amazing. Two nights I had buffalo chicken tenders (breaded in parmesan cheese and smothered in hot sauce with some ranch dressing) Last night my boyfriend (discodon1980) who is on Atkin's as well was complaining that he could kill for some pizza...so I made "pizza"!!! I was suprised with myself with how good it was. We each had a low carb tortilla with the tiniest bit of pizza sauce, mozzerella cheese, pepperoni, and bacon. I grilled my tortilla first, but he just stuck the whole thing in the microwave as it was. OMG...was it goooooood! lol...can you tell I loooove food?

Another thing that is amazing is that yesterday my appetite dropped tremendously. All I had was 2 keilbasa's (sp?) at lunch time and pizza at like 11pm and I was satisfied the entire day!

Whenever I get a sweet craving, I either have some diet soda (bad I know) or a couple shots of some land o' lakes sugar free whipped cream (no carbs!!!) It satisfies my desert craving like no other!

Other than that I have been having lots of deviled eggs made with bacon, celery dipped in ranch, some salami wrapped with colby-jack cheese, hamburgers....yum...kinda making me hungry thinking about it. I think tonight I am going to have a salad...haven't had enough veggies really.

But anyways, I just thought I'd update ya'll on how I am doing! I really truly don't feel like I am on a diet. I know I am not following it to a T as in the book, but with the limited success I have had in the past, I am very happy with how I am doing. (I have never lost more than 30 pounds on a diet before, and I have like 180 to lose now!!!! )

And you're right, it doesnt feel like a diet! its great isnt it??

Congratulations on your success so far, blugirl!

Ditto on everything Emma said. For me, it's very important to follow the book to the T. My mom and I started atkins at the same time; I follow the plan to a T and I'm finding it pretty easy to stick to the plan, my mom hasn't followed it exactly and I think she is finding it harder to stay on plan. Plus, I've lost a lot more weight overall (but some of that might be due to age difference).

MMmmmm, the parmesan chicken sounds delicious right now...

Oh, and I think kielbasa is a type of sausage

        Good luck on everything!

Emma - keilbasa is a Polish sausage.

Blugurl - congratulations on starting your journey and the very best to you along the way!! I second Emma's advice about being very careful in your food choices and am also wondering do you literally mean that is all you had?

If so, that really isn't a good plan - you need to eat three meals a day, as well as whatever allowed snacks you need to have. Be completely obsessive about checking carb counts, especially during induction. Not all keilbasa is created equal!! The one's I checked had 4 net carbs each, which would be 8 carbs for 2 of them. There are 3 carbs in a low carb tortilla - so that's 11g just for those two items, though of course yours may vary from that.

You only have 20g of carbs available to you during induction, and most of these should come from vegetable, so eat them up!!! You'll find it is a surprising amount of veg.

I gave up diet coke when I started - and coming from a 2-3 litre per day intake, that was hard. But after about 2 days of dreadful headaches I was fine, and it left room for me to drink a LOT of water. I am so glad I did it, I feel much better as a result and so many people say that they are stallers, so I am happy to have one more potential obstacle out of the way.

            Re: Update:5 days in!

Yeah, Kielbasa is a polish sausage. The ones I had were some gourmet sort (with a gourmet price to go along) the were filled with artichoke and some sort of white cheese. The carb count was 2 each. This is what my menu looked like yesterday:

no breakfast- woke up too late and had to run out the door and was too tired the night before to prepare breakfast and lunch the following day.
lunch- 2 artichoke and cheese kielbasas (4 carbs)
1 tablespoon lowcarb ketchup (1 carb)
            dinner- tortilla-(5 carbs)
            1 1/2 tablespoons pizza sauce (2 carbs)
            ~25 pepperoni (1 carb)
            mozzeralla cheese (1 carb)
random shots of whipped cream (sweetened with splenda) 2 carbs

That's a total of 16 but I was very generous with my estmates and even added a carb for the things that said 0 carbs.

I only ate that much because I really WAS NOT hungry. I got home from work and immediately started working on homework until 11...had dinner and did more homework til 1:30. So I was busy the whole daY. I guess it kept my mind off food.

The days before tho, I ate much differently.
            example:
            breakfast 7 deviled egg halfs
            snack celery dipped in ranch
lunch leftover "fried" chicken with buffalo and ranch
dinner 2 beak and cheese burritos made from low carb tortillas
            (i know i know...the tortillas aren't allowed on induction)
