  • New bie questions

Okay I have been on inducation for 5 weeks going on my sixth week.
But I have been eating cheesecake slices and white cheddar popcorn . But I still lost 12 pounds. I am eating my last popcorn now, so tomorrow I will be strick. But questions. Coffee do I really have to give that up. Can any body suggest anything for breakfast other than, bacon and eggs?

    Re: New bie questions

I still drink the occational cup of coffee and it seems not to affect me but try cutting it out for a few weeks and see how the weight loss goes. As for breakfast I love omlettes with lots of veggies or sometimes I'll just have some turkey with cheese.

For breakfast I also have omelets with veggies, boiled eggs, turkey sausages, I also eat things I like for breakfast like left over steak and eggs. Sometimes I even want salad for breakfast.

        Re: New bie questions

Lately I have been making a crustless quiche at the weekend and having a slice of that with some cherry tomatoes for breakfast.

Other easy b/fasts are ham/cheese rollups or a slice of flax bread or two with butter and cheese or meat or Marmite.

I dont think I have once had bacon and eggs for breakfast in over 4 years Atkineering!

Yes - if you have constipation problems you are allowed to add one tablespoon of either psyllium husks, ground flax (linseed outside USA) or wheat bran according to the rules of induction.
Some of us have invented/found recipes that use these ingredients to make dishes like muffins, pancakes or bread instead of just mixing them with water and trying to drink them without gagging!!

But as with all recipes or premade food items you need to make sure ALL the ingredients are allowed for your particular phase of Atkins.

With regard to coffee: as I recall, Doc Atkins says the caffeine can cause an insulin response in some people. He recommends going off coffee for induction and then if you wish you may try to re-introduce coffee and see if you keep losing. I'd say if you are losing and still drinking coffee, just go with what you're doing.

Flaxmeal: I love flax muffins, they're really easy. Sometimes I make onesies in the microwave. You make a batter with appx 1/3 cup flaxmeal, an egg, stevia or splenda, perhaps 1/4 tsp baking powder ... dash of water to make batter consistency. Nuke it appx 1 minute. it's not unlike a bran muffin. You can also make larger batches and bake in the oven. Google up recipes. experiment. use a little almond meal too for a nice amaretto muffin. It's a very forgiving set of recipes.

Of course, all these extra veggies and flax are not allowed under induction, strictly speaking. You should consider just going to OWL to allow yourself some more food variety. You've earned it, you deserve it.

                great question......

i actually cut up celery, onion, red pepper and even a tomato.....put them all in a pan and saute them. we also have this frozen shrimp in the freezer, a cut them into two piecesd and throw them in the pan too. for the more adventurous, although i am told you should be careful of sugars.......you can even cut two or three pieces of sausage into small bite-sized peices and throw them in the pan too. when done sauteeing all that.....then if you wish you can sprinkle a little cheese and throw in the microwave. very good breakfast but wait.......have a large glass of water sipping it between bites

this is what i have been doing.......
