  • How much fat?

Using Fitday, I'm keeping nicely on track with the 65F 30P 5C ratio but notice that my fat intake is varying from day to day. I'm not too sure if I have enough fat so is there actually a minimum or maximum amount of fat we should be having each day?

    Thankyou

    Re: How much fat?

No... there's no real hard and fast max/min. Use your appetite as a guide. Eat enough to satisfy, but don't gorge. Fat fills you up fast, but fat is our friend on Atkins. The ratios are a guide only, I wouldn't stress too much if your percentages vary a bit from day to day.

      Re: How much fat?

I really never worry about how much fat i eat.
I worry about carbs, can I eat a whole bag of cabbage, blue cheese dressings, if I get a cobb salad at Quiznos how many carbs....how much broccolli can I eat and still be on induction.

None of the worries I have on atkins have to do with how much fat I am eating. So I guess I am no help on the question.

        Re: How much fat?

The way I understood it, the total calories I eat over a day will also determine how much weight I can lose ie too much fat=too many calories=stall/ weight gain, in fact I'm certain I saw a thread about that but can't locate it.

It seems too good to be true that we are able to eat unlimited amounts of fat which push our daily calorie levels up and still lose weight.

Today, I had bacon ( My fave) for breakfast and nibbled on more of it all morning, roast chicken (with crispy skin) for lunch and lean steak fried in butter for dinner, my fat intake is higher than I dare believe. Fitday reckons it at 150 grams of fat! IS that too much fat or is there really no such thing as too much?
I guess I'll find out tomorrow morning

        Thanks for all your comments.

          Re: How much fat?

I never even check on fitday how many total fat grams I eat a day as long as my percentages are good. I eat close or slightly above my BMR for calories and find that tough at times because I am just not hungry. I wouldn't worry about the fat grams at all...it's not too good to be true, it's Atkins.

            Re: How much fat?

I'm obsessive about my ratios and minimum calories and grams of protein.....but, I have NO CLUE how many grams of fat I eat in a day. I would just recommend keeping your carbs around 5% of your total calories, keep your protein 30% or slightly below. You don't want to consistently be OVER on the protein, and then, the fat is what's left.

Since your ratios are where they should be, I wouldn't worry about anything else right now. Only eat until you are satisfied and you'll be fine.

WOW! I've lost more weight in one day than I have so far.
I will write out 500 lines; I will not worry about my fat intake, I will not worry about my fat intake, I will not.....

Hehe I guess I just needed someone else to say it too in case it was a fluke - thanks everyone for the reassurance
