Re: Just A Little Reminder And Advice

Thanks! I crave sugar---a lot! But I've been doing the Splenda thing thinking I was doing the right thing. Even fruit throws me into a craving I can't control.

I'm starting my induction tomorrow. This time no artificial sweetner.

Just read this. Think I have the later version and I copied the induction food list from the Atkins site. Guess I better throw that out and get the ones you have here and see if I can find the right book

I am extremely Insulin Resistant and ANY sugar throws me right out of ketosis. I had two Nurofen before realising they were sugar-coated and that threw me out for two whole days. I had to cut the carbs right back to 10 a day to get back.

This is the reality for an IR person. However, I can use Stevia without it affecting me the same way. And my diet jelly and double cream makes up for it!

              Hi Singadiva

How do you find out if you are Insulin Resistant?

                Hi,

You have to do a fasting glucose and fasting insulin test. Your responses will tell your doctor if you are insulin resistant - these are also the tests for diabetes.

Incidently, I was retested recently and due to Atkins I am no longer Insulin Resistant!! Still not losing weight though....due to thyroid/adrenal/peri-menopausal issues.

                Cheers,

                Diva

First of all, you ladies look great! It gives me hope, but I have been on induction for 7 days and have lost zero pounds. I was successful on Atkins serveral years ago and have decided to start at induction again because I am about 20 heavier than I want to be. I trailed off of my maintenance plan a coule of years ago and because of that, gained about 20 pounds over the course of 2/3 years...Anyway, I have been on induction for 7 days and the ketostix show very light pink to dark pink, depending on how much water I have had prior to the test and I have not lost a pound. I have only eaten meat, cheese, sugar free jello and some whole cream with coffee. Should I be this discouraged?? If it worked for me so well before, should'nt I see some results? Escpecially if I'm in ketosis...right?

Re: Just A Little Reminder And Advice

Firstly if you are not having some vegetables, you are not doing Induction. Read the 2002 Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution, review the Induction rules and copy them down into 2 lists - one for your fridge, one for your handbag.

Eating too much meat/cheese/dairy/artificial sweeteners will only lead to converting to fat just the same as eating too many carbs - especially if you are not exercising. Dr Atkins describes exercise as a 'non-negotiable' part of the regimen.

Dairy is notorious for stalling weight in some people so you should be very aware of what is an acceptable amount. Coffee is also not allowed unless it is decaff and even then, it can stall weightloss because of its effect on blood sugar levels.

Your best chance at being successful is to be armed with knowledge. Read up on this stuff so you understand why some things may not work for you. Then you are not wasting time wondering why and getting discouraged.

It is possible to be in ketosis and to be simply burning your dietary fat so if you are consuming too much of this in dairy and meat, you won't be burning what you have stored - that is why your food must included fresh vegetables. They are also very neccesary for the fibre, as is adding psylium husk or flaxmeal in your diet. If you are not including these, your waste/digestive system is not eliminating properly and so you are storing stuff in your colon.

Crucially, if you are undereating calories too you will not lose weight but will push your body into starvation mode - you might not feel hungry because of the protein but you can be undereating.

Atkins isn't about doing unnatural things - Induction is designed to prepare your body for a much cleaner way of eating and to give you the chance to figure out what does and doesn't work so you can go on to eat normally. It isn't the 'normal' of others stuffing themselves with refined foods all day long but it is the normal which is right for a human body - a wide variety of fresh natural foods.

                    Hope this helps!

OH WOW!!! Mitzimarie, did you lose all that weight from this diet?? thats incredible, you look great.
the reason i'm focusing on YOUR weight loss is that you're now a size 4/6 and i've not seen many people on here drop so much weight.so i was concerned whether this diet would actually work for me.

I'm a size 8/10, but my ideal weight is 6/8.after a year of **** shall we say,i've piled on the pounds, mostly around my tummy, hips, thighs and buttocks.i realise for many a size 8/10 is perfect, but i look out of proportion, and just feel terribly unconfortable and heavy.i should not be this heavy, and have got to this from continuous binging

Seeing how slim you are actually reassures me that this diet might work for me
