  • Are my carbs too low/Am I losing too much?

I know I'm meant to be eating 20 carbs or under per day but by the time I enter my foods (including the required 3 cups veg a day) into fitday and deduct fibre, the total day's net carb figure is often as low as 14 - is this right ? I feel like I'm starving my body of carbs - or should I be eating more veg than on the list?
I eat all day, espcially fatty things (fat is my friend, fat is my friend.... lol)

As you can see, I've lost way more weight than usually expected during induction my ticker shows my weight loss is 11 pounds out of a total of 24 pounds in 12 days but probably more as I haven't weighed myself today.

My days are pretty sedentary but since January, I've been trying to go to the gym or work out at home 3 times a week - that helped my weight loss kick in on a low fat diet but I switched to Atkins very recently as I missed my yummy food!

    Any comments?

    Thanks

Thats fine, i think mine was the same on induction, as long as youre not just eating nutritionless water leaves (lettuce) you're okay!

So when you move on to Rung one of OWL you would be eating around 19 net carbs

Thats a great loss wow! you'll find as soon as induction is up and you add those extra carbs it slows up a little! Fantastic work though!

I'm in the UK too, whereabouts are you?

        Hi Emma, I'm in Essex.
        Thanks for the comments.
I'm tempted to add cream and sweetener to increase the carbs to closer to 20 just to see what happens.

I think that maybe I'm just tending to eat veggies that have a high fibre content which knocks the net figure down by quite a bit so if you reckon it's OK then I won't do the cream/sweetener thing.
            Thanks again

Re: Are my carbs too low/Am I losing too much?

Thanks for asking this question as I am in a similar spot. For the last 3 days my net carbs have been 16 to 17 but it worries me since I have not experienced any of the "negative" side effects I have read about (headache, "flu", bad breath) and in fact feel great and am not hungry at all. Fats have been at 60-65%, Protein 30-31%. Water 93 oz per day--some regular coffee first thing in the morning only. Veggies have been baby spinach, mushrooms, green beans and 1/2 of a Roma tomato today. I am measuring everything carefully.

I did not get the strips to pee on since I figured I could tell when I hit ketosis. I hope and pray I am not one of the "resistant" types--I guess I am complaining because I did not expect to feel this good and am afraid it is not working.

Will find out in 11 days I guess

              Pam

It seems to me you are doing fine, Pam
Not everyone has the headaches or 'atkins flu' - you may be one of the lucky ones
The lack of appetite might be the way your body experiences ketosis, as appetite suppression is one effect of it!!
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
