but how bad would it be if I had a glass of champagne or wine on induction? It's my two year anniversary this weekend with my bf and I want to celebrate!

    Re: alcohol

It's a personal choice you have to make... not an easy one, I know. You might want to put off starting induction as it's only a matter of days (though this is not something I'd usually suggest).

The fact is that your body will use alcohol for fuel before fat or carbs, so will cause a little delay. Another thing is that it's very important to do as clean and induction as you can. If you do a clean induction you'll have two advantages: A) Based on your induction losses, you'll have a clear idea of what your CCLL (critical carb level for losing) will be when you move through the OWL (ongoing weight loss) rungs. B) A clean induction will get you into ketosis and will go a long way to killing carb cravings.

Welcome to the board, btw and kudos to you for getting the book. It's really important to understand the science behind Atkins.
    Keep us posted.

Hope you have a wonderful 2nd anniversary celebration, with or without the alcohol!

      Re: alcohol

If you do drink a glass of wine (better) or champange try to limit it to one or two glasses. Wine adds between 1 to 3 sugar carbs per 150 ml. or 5oz.. A half a bottle is rougly 375ml, for your information. So you need to factor the sugar carbs into your overall carb count which should be around 20 carbs or more if you are exercising a lot.

Also if you are in ketosis, your body will metabolise the alcohol before you go back to burning fat.

Generally speaking, most members will frown on you drinking alcohol during induction and Dr. Atkin's says plainly to not drink alcohol during induction.

        Re: alcohol

        1. Is alcohol allowed on Atkins Induction Phase?

Alcohol is not allowed during atkins induction phase.

        2. Which Phase of Atkins is alcohol allowed to be consumer?

Moderate consumption of alcohol is allowed during Atkins Ongoing weight loss phase, Atkins pre-maintenance phase and Atkins lifetime maintenance phase if it does not interferes with weight loss and weight maintenance.

        3. Is light beer allowed on Atkins?

Although light beer is lower in grams of carbs, it may cause yeast related symptoms such as bloating, gas and cravings for sugar. Atkins dieters who are yeast sensitive should limit beer consume or eliminate it from their atkins diet plan.

        4. How many carbs does alcohol contain?

Carb count varies by type of alcoholic drink. Refer to Atkins Alcohol carb counter for alcohol carb gram count.

(Now don't tell anyone but I had drinks Friday night, yes its a cheat, and I go right back on the wagon saturday).

Good decision! I have had wine on two occations since starting and I always gain for a day or two so it is not worth it.
