  • Sipping Olive Oil?

I read an article a while back that favors sipping olive oil for those that are following Ketogenic Diets ( Like Atkins ). The reason he suggests this is that it keeps total % of fat calories high, helps with cravings, and increases energy.

Has anyone done this? With the cheese limit, cream limit, and sensativity to eggs, I find getting my fat % close to 70 rather challenging ( while still trying to hit my BMR )

    Thanks for feedback

    Re: Sipping Olive Oil?

My grandfather always drank a shot of olive oil every day. Said it was good for the heart. He lived to be 80 so maybe he was right. The idea of drinking it straight makes me ill, so instead I put a little extra butter on veggies, or use mayo or oil as a condiment for veggies and salads to up the fat percentage. I love to eat steak with horseradish sauce, which is made with sour cream, mayo and horseradish. Sometimes I'll even put a bit of herbed butter on top of a grilled steak. Tastes delish and increase the fat.

It's supposed to be extremely good for you, if you could get past the taste of straight oil. Maybe add a little garlic and parmesan? I could eat that.

      Lemme know how this goes.

Sipping olive oil is also an old home remedy for constipation. The oil softens the "stuff" and helps you move it out the other end.

During Atkins Induction, the fat calorie% should be about 65%, not 70%. Some foods are naturally "high fat", like avocados, eggs, certain cuts of meat. IF you choose to eat lean meats, like poultry or fish, that's fine, but you will have to add the fat back into your diet. It generally takes as little as 1 to 2 tablespoons of added fat (butter, oil, mayonnaise) in order to make a meal "high fat".
