  • Question regarding fiber

    Hi all,

I just finished my fitday food log for today and came up with 24G of carbs which really flipped me out but then I looked below that number and the fiber was 9 grams which I "think" means I had 15G of net carbs but to be sure I looked in my book and it just says 20G of carb period. Can someone please and verify that only the non-fiber carbs count toward the 20G maximum allowed on induction.

    Thanks in advance!!

    Pam

    Re: Question regarding fiber

I had the same experience when I first used fitday log. Yes. You count only the net carbs.

Net Carbs = Total Carbs - Fiber.

Yes , its all about net carbs. Always substract fiber count.
(You need fiber more on atkins than other diets because , atkins does not allow a lot fiber rich foods like bread).
I eat a lot of flax seed meal, flax seed, metamucil.

I always count the net carbs for everything I eat , including supplements like flax seed meal, flax seed, metamucil.

Which edition of the book are you using? Since 2002, the Atkins Diet has said to count "net" carbs, not total carbs.

I do have the 2002 edition but I could not find the exact place where he said to deduct the fiber grams from the total carb grams. I am sure it is there but I just could not find it. Thanks to all for your "spot on" responses.

To calculate the carbs that count, simply subtract the number of grams of dietary fiber from the total number of carbohydrate grams.

You should eat 12-15 net carbs a day of vegetables. These salad vegetables are high in phytonutrients and provide a good source of fibe

Notice how the meals are counted with the title "Net Carbs"
